Last Sunday The Walking Dead surprised a ton of viewers when episode 10 'The Next World' ended with a romance scene between Michonne and Rick. But while the viewers thought they were surprised, that's nothing compared to the man himself, Andrew Lincoln!

In a recent interview, Lincoln revealed his total surprise upon learning that his character was about to hook up with Michonne, telling Yahoo TV that when he found out he actually screamed! Speaking about first learning what was going to happen in the episode, and his reaction he said:

"I read it straight away and then banged on her trailer door and went, 'What the heck is going on? Did you know about this?'”

But it was Danai Gurira's (Michonne) response that really got him riled up:

"She said, 'I had an inkling.' I said, 'You had an inkling and you didn’t tell me?'”

Of course deep and thoughtful Michonne had a feeling that there was something more to her and Rick, while he had no idea!

Lincoln also spoke about what he, Gurira, and the writers were trying to convey with the scene between the two, and I think you'll agree, it's pretty poetic:

"What we wanted [to convey with] that scene was these two old warrior friends who love each other, and for all intents and purposes, have been a family for quite a long time. They’ve saved each other’s lives on many occasions. This was just a moment of electricity where they catch each other, and they look at each other, and they say, of course, of course it should be this, and it should be grown up and natural and free and equal."

How cool does that sound? And I think you'll agree that they definitely managed to show that in the scene.

But in addition to talking about Rick and Michonne, Andrew Lincoln also told Yahoo that he was worried about audiences not understanding that there had been a time jump between Jessie's death and Rick and Michonne getting together, he said:

"I was concerned about the time jump not registering, because episodically, Rick’s just lost Jessie. But actually, Jessie’s a vital part of opening up a very important area of Rick that he had closed since Lori’s death. I think without Jessie, the kiss [with Michonne] would never have happened. There is a natural evolution, I think, of Rick between those two women."

Which totally makes sense. Without Jessie, Rick would still be closed off to finding a partner after Lori's death, but because of her, she made him realize he could find happiness once again, aww!

'The Walking Dead' returns with episode 11 'Knots Untie' on Sunday, February 28th on AMC.
