My name is Liene, I'm a professional Latvian artist residing in Spain and I love sewing one-of-a-kind dolls inspired by my favourite characters from movies, TV series, books or even real people. I started dollmaking about three years ago and since then I've developed my own techniques, patterns and skills I apply to create my dolls. They are hand stitched using upcycled, vintage, reclaimed etc. fabrics and other materials with a story thereby my creations are both eco-friendly and unique. I work under the brand named Lelleco ( "lelle" comes from Latvian and means "doll" + "eco").
The idea about making dolls inspired by the Game of Thrones characters came to me very naturally. All 5 seasons seen, all the books read, the season 6 is almost here, the impatience is increasing every day to the point of being a little frustrating... You understand me, right? I'm just another desperate fan who wants to know what really happened to Jon Snow!!! So... I made a doll. Call it a therapy.
Dead or alive, the memory of Jon Snow as the Lord Commander of the Night's Watch is assured now in a form of a lovely and cuddly doll. He is 12 inches high, his arms move up-down and his famous black cape is removable. And, of course, he's got the key of the Wall!
But what would be Jon without Ygritte (R.I.P.)?... I just couldn't stop, I had to make her doll too!
If normally it takes me about 6-7 hours to make a simple doll, this one took a couple of hours more. And it's all because of that patched fur coat!! Piece to piece, genuine vintage leather, fur and fleece and pricked fingers but finally a warm tiny garment came out. I think, Ygritte is really enjoying it!
Now, let's leave the North for a moment and visit the Dothraki sea for a cup of fermented mare's milk with the great Khal Drogo (also R.I.P.). Not really sure if he's fearsome or comic? Anyway, he's my favourite doll so far!
And finally, "Daenerys Stormborn, of House Targaryen. Rightful heir to the Iron Throne, Queen of the Seven Kingdoms of Westeros, the Rhoynar, and the First Men, the Mother of Dragons, the Khaleesi of the Great Grass Sea, the Unburnt, and Breaker of Chains." Bla, bla bla... Daenerys, your'e pretty, that's enough. :)
Dany has got quite a lot different looks in the TV series and it wasn't easy to choose only one. In the end I opted for this blue one inspired in the season 3. The dress is a bit tuned up and the cape is removable. And the long hair...
Well, these are the first 4 dolls I've made so far, I'm planning to make some more! If you're interested to see more about my creative process and more pictures of the result, feel free to join my social networks: look for Lellecoshop on Facebook, Twitter, Instagram and don't miss a detail!
