Being famous is all well and good, but sometimes celebrities try to stay out of the limelight and just do their work. However, other celebrities go out of their way to help others and trail-blaze for generations to come. These celebrities are classed as 'role-models', people who we should all be a bit more like, and can take a lesson from. Here are five of the most inspirational celebrities of today.

5. JK Rowling

Although Rowling hasn't been as active since the end of the Harry Potter franchise, she is still a great rolemodel. Rowling started from the very bottom, writing Harry Potter books for her children's bed-time stories. However, through her own hard work and perseverance, she created possibly the biggest franchise to date. Despite countless rejections, she worked to lift Harry Potter off the ground, creating a whole world down to the minuscule details. Characters from the Harry Potter books are considered role models, but even more so their creator, JK Rowling, who's an inspiration to young people and aspiring writers.

4. Jennifer Lawrence

Jennifer Lawrence is an actress who became famous after her role as Katniss Everdeen in The Hunger Games trilogy. However, it's the actress's personality that makes her most interesting, as she's very 'down-to-Earth' and reminds us a little too much of ourselves, from tripping up to receive an award to fangirling when she meets other celebrities on the carpet. Jennifer Lawrence is a reminder that ordinary people like you and I can achieve our dreams through hard work and dedication.

3. Johnny Depp

One of Hollywood's best 'nice guys'. Johnny Depp excels in his acting career, but what happens off-camera is equally important. Depp is well-known for visiting children's hospitals dressed as one of his most famous characters, Captain Jack Sparrow, to spend time with sick children and read to them. After his daughter recovered from a serious illness in 2007, he donated two million dollars to her hospital. Most recently, he has been praised in the media for visiting the school of a young girl who wrote to him. Johnny Depp is a selfless and caring person, and we could all take a leaf from his book.

2. Jensen Ackles, Misha Collins and Jared Padalecki

Three of Supernatural's biggest stars have worked together over the last couple of years to lift off multiple campaigns to help people who suffer with mental illnesses and loneliness. Recently, Ackles and Collins have launched a campaign called the You Are Not Alone campaign, which is a hotline service for fans suffering with mental illness and loneliness. The idea is that it will be easier for these victims to talk to people with a common interest. Furthermore, Padalecki has a campaign of his own, the Always Keep Fighting campaign, which encourages fans to do just that- never give up, no matter what. As with Depp, these three show a kindness and caring for others that we should all aspire to replicate.

1. Ellen Page

Since coming out just over two years ago in 2014 at a Human Rights Campaign conference, Ellen Page has been actively working hard for equality for the LGBT community. In 2015, she starred in a film based around the true story of Laurel Hester and her wife, which encourages equality and was a big part of the movement towards legalisation of gay marriage in America. This year, she's on a 'Gaycation' trip to shed light on how homosexuality affects people in various other countries, starting with Japan. She works to abolish gender and sexuality stereotypes and encourages people to be who they are. A human rights activist, she has become a role model for standing up for what you believe in, and often says that she feels it's her duty to help those without a voice. For this reason, we should all aspire to help others as she has, and work for what we believe in.
