Yes, I know 23 is technically still very young, and some would even say I know nothing about life, but what I do know is what nostalgia feels like. The last movie that brought me back to my childhood was The Force Awakens, and before that probably Man of Steel. These are franchises with characters that I have followed since before I can even remember.
Here we are in the end of February with less than a month before the highly anticipated Batman vs Superman is released. Words can not describe my excitement for this picture. In 1997 at 5 years old, I got to see my favorite superhero, Batman, meet Superman for the very first time in The Batman Superman Movie which was animated and set in the same universe as Batman's already established animated series. I couldn't believe it. Batman's animated TV series was already something that I was growing up on. Then came Superman's series which began in 1996, and I was already a huge fan of both. Then this team up movie came out and I couldn't believe it. I grew up poor so basic cable was as good as I got so unlike some people, I was raised on the animated superhero shows rather than comics. As I got older, more and more superheroes were making their way to TV with the Justice League shows and many more, but even then, Batman and Superman were my favorite.
After I grew out of my cartoon watching phase, I started getting into film in general and researching what was going on behind the scenes and what studios were working on. Around this time I Am Legend came out, which, as many of you know, had one of the greatest Easter eggs of all time within it.
Obviously the picture speaks for itself. When I saw this my mind was blown. I was assured that this would be coming soon. So when I got home I did some detective work and found out about George Miller's failed attempt at a Justice League movie and other unconfirmed team up movie rumors. I was devastated.
Fortunately, I had Christopher Nolan's Batman films to lean on in the mean time. Then, Zack Snyder's Man of Steel came out, which was produced by Christopher Nolan, and while they publicly said that the Nolan films were over and done with, I was still secretly hoping for a Bruce Wayne cameo after the credits of the film. Needless to say we never got one. Obviously reviews were not spectacular for the film as Man of Steel was very polarizing for many viewers, but not for myself. I absolutely loved it. It was inspired and ballsy filmmaking, and gave us a very relatable Superman that we haven't seen before. Speculation on a sequel was fairly cloudy for a while, until notorious Hollywood insider El Mayimbe let his followers know that a Batman Superman team up was a real possibility for a sequel. Then Comic Con happened...
Fast forward to now and we have 3 and a half weeks before this movie is released. For years I have dreamed of seeing these characters share a screen together, and that dream is being fulfilled. Unless of course I'm currently in a coma and this is all still a dream, but that would be a cheap and lazy Hollywood payoff. This movie is actually happening guys. It's really happening, and I can't contain myself! I have been speculating on this movie for at least two years and soon I won't have to anymore. Star Wars The Force Awakens was a special experience because I'm finally old enough to truly appreciate the hype and anticipation of a new Star Wars film and that turned out to actually be good. But BvS is a film experience that is history in the making. This is the first time Batman and Superman have been in a live action movie together, talking to each other, fighting each other, working together, and just being in a frame together!!
I can't explain how thankful I am that I am alive and well to be able to see this actually happen (for now at least, I still have like a month to die in a freak keyboard typing accident). But anyways, I just wanted to share a little bit about why I love movies and that is because they have the ability to allow you to reminisce on your childhood and all the joys that it included. This movie has been a long time coming, and I am appreciative to every single person who had anything to do with this movie being made. That being said, PLEASE FOR THE LOVE OF GOD LET THIS MOVIE BE GOOD!!!!!
