Two weeks have passed and is still destroying the box office, breaking records left and right. Deadpool's sense of humor and his constant fourth wall breaks were reasons for the film's success.
Fans can now expect Deadpool to appear more thanks to its recent win at the box office. Writers Rhett Reese and Paul Wernick will have a hand in any film featuring Deadpool including X-Force and X-Men.
“We will have a hand in it. I think everything that ‘Deadpool’ is involved in we will have a hand in and it’s a universe that Ryan [Reynolds] and us are very close to and very protective of, so I do think we would absolutely involved in that franchise as well. If it’s Deadpool related, I think you’ll see some of our fingerprints on that.”
Deadpool even appearing in an X-Men film is possible according to Reese and Wernick, but fans may have to wait a bit longer to see it:
"Oh for sure, if you look at the ‘Iron Man’ model they had two ‘Iron Man’ [movies] before they had an ‘Avengers,’ and if left up to us, I think that would be a very prudent path. The second issue at hand is the ‘X-Men’ universe timeline. The ‘X-Men’ series is currently set in the 1980s, ‘Deadpool,’ is set three decades later in our present day.
“It’s a timeline that will eventually catch up I would imagine. But Simon [Kingberg’s] more the keeper of that universe and maybe we’ll see more X-Men playing in Deadpool’s sandbox and probably Deadpool playing in their sandbox at some point.
“Deadpool’s now become a brand and franchise unto himself, independent of the ‘X-Men’ and that’s great. And that gives the studio two franchises in one, but I think it is its own franchise, and you’ll see synergy between those two properties, but they’re two very distinct brands.”
Both Wernick and Reese will bring Cable, another loved character to the X-Universe when Deadpool 2 arrives. Setting up Deadpool and Cable's perfect chemistry before teaming up with other heroes in an X-Force film is a great idea. The thing comic book fans know is that when Deadpool was first in the X-Force team, Cable wasn't present at all with the team. Cable first appeared in a different incarnation of the team later on. It is going to be very interesting to see Deadpool's R-rated style mix with other X-Men characters besides Colossus and Negasonic Teenage Warhead.
This news doesn't completely confirm that a X-Force film is happening or that Deadpool will appear in the next present day X-Men film. Deadpool in a X-Force film is perfect. but Fox may be hesitant to drop Deadpool in every X-Universe film because it could be huge risk even after his standalone film is tearing up the box office. As of now, it has been quiet when it comes to Fox green lighting another film featuring Deadpool. Fans now should expect to see Deadpool expand to one or even both X-Universe team up brands, but Deadpool is a brand on its own and it is smart to keep it like that for now.
Deadpool is now in theaters. X-Men: Apocalypse opens on May 27, 2016. X-Force is rumored to be in development.
