Abigail Breslin's Baby finally has her Johnny in the form of actor/dancer/model Colt Prattes taking on Patrick Swayze's most iconic and romantic role in ABC'S three-hour remake of "Dirty Dancing".
Prattes is a singer, dancer, and actor best known for his appearance in P!nk’s “Try” music video, where he showed off his performance skills and chiseled physique. He also toured with P!nk and starred in Rock of Ages in Las Vegas.
In the three-hour musical airing on ABC, Prattes will portray Johnny, the dance instructor at the Catskill Mountains resort who teaches Baby — played by Abigail Breslin — to be his new partner. Debra Messing has also been cast to play Baby’s mother.
Dirty Dancing will be executive produced by Allison Shearmur (The Hunger Games) and Eleanor Bergstein, who wrote the original film screenplay. Jessica Sharzer (The L Word) will write the adaptation, Wayne Blair (The Sapphires) will direct, and Andy Blankenbuehler (Hamilton) will choreograph.
I was hoping to see Jacob Artist's (Glee, Quantico, After the Dark & White Bird in a Blizzard) name attached to this project, but Colt Prattes is also a great casting choice with his dancing abilities and he has the tall, dark and handsome looks that's perfect for Johnny's character - I'm remaining optimistic that his acting will be just as good as his dancing to bring a fresh take on the male lead of this story.
I will post further casting announcements as soon as they are announced, but make sure to share your thoughts and opinions of the casting of the new remake of Dirty Dancing in the comments section below.
