Fox have had an incredible February - Deadpool is absolutely killing the box office (it's currently sitting on a whopping $609,805,905 worldwide), and it's now the most successful X-Men film of all time. To capitalise on Deadpool's enormous success, Fox have announced two untitled Marvel movies. Exactly what are those movies? That's what we're here to work out.

First, The Bad News

Coming as a surprise to absolutely nobody, Gambit won't be making its October 2016 release date, mainly because it hasn't actually started shooting yet. The project was in development hell for an absolute age until Channing Tatum signed on, followed by director Rupert Wyatt. Things started looking up until Wyatt left the project, and was eventually replaced by The Bourne Identity's Doug Liman. Due to the change in director, the flick hasn't even started shooting yet, so there's absolutely no chance it's going to make a release date only 7 months away. Putting it back on the shelf is definitely the right decision.

October 6th 2017

Chances are, Gambit has been pushed back a year to give it time to actually be made. While this seems like a no-brainer, it does strike me as a bit odd that Fox wouldn't just say 'Oh hey, Gambit's been moved a year.' Instead of 'Gambit's cancelled, and we've got this other mystery thing next year.'

Depending on how far along the script is (and I believe it's pretty far along already), this could be Deadpool 2. If they can get something into production by early Summer, it should give them just about enough time to make that date and lets be honest, they must be desperate to capitalise on that surprise Deadpool cash!

January 12th 2018

If the October date isn't Gambit, it could well be on track for this January date. The more exciting option, however, is X-Force. We've known for a while that Fox has had an X-Force movie in development, and you can bet all the money in the world that after Deadpool's insane success they're clamouring to get this thing made. In an interview with Filmstarts, Ryan Reynolds went on record to say:

"There’s so much material to mine in just the X-Men universe … In the future, if we’re doing a bunch more Deadpool movies, we’re really going to explore the X-Men a lot. We’ll see. And maybe X-Force — X-Force is my priority. I really want to get that in."

Deadpool obviously wants an X-Force movie, and it could allow for some amazing casting - Olivia Munn's Psylocke, Ben Hardy's Archangel and, of course, Ryan Reynolds as The Merc With A Mouth. With Cable confirmed for the Deadpool sequel and Domino rumoured to be appearing, that could round out the first X-Force team on the big screen.

The Wildcard

Fox still has an 'unnamed X-Men film' due for release on July 13th 2018. Right now, it would make sense for this to be Josh Boone's New Mutants, but if everything I've talked about above ends up getting pushed back, this could quite easily be where X-Force fits in. Whatever way round these flicks end up being released, it's definitely an exciting time to be an X-fan.

What X-Men films would you like to see in the future?
