It was moment that the world has been waiting for: Leonardo DiCaprio finally received an Academy Award.

Despite six previous nominations, DiCaprio had never been awarded the prestigious honour before tonight. Often the subject of Internet and social media memes, many felt that DiCaprio had been 'overlooked' in previous years. DiCaprio has had a lengthy career starring in hit films such as Romeo + Juliet, Titanic, Shutter Island, The Wolf of Wallstreet but ultimately won tonight for his role in The Revenant.

Tonight was the night that DiCaprio finally found the recognition that he truly deserves, and the world rejoiced with DiCaprio. Moreover, the whole room erupted in applause and standing ovations as Julianne Moore read out DiCaprio's name. Reactions from his longtime friend and Titanic co-star Kate Winslet and Patricia Arquette were heartwarming, as DiCaprio maintained a joyous look onstage.
