Who is the best Batman? The debate could rage on for a long time, with varying opinions, but one man who surely has some say is the the former TV Caped Crusader, Adam West.
To celebrate The Big Bang Theory's 200th episode, West was a special guest on the sitcom, and in one scene the question of who made the best Batman was brought up. Take a look at a clip below (spoiler alert, Christian Bale does not come off well):
"Even My Poodle Knows Bale Is Overrated"
When asked for his view on the order of actors, from best to worst, West sets out his tongue-in-cheek order:
“Even my poodle knows Bale is overrated. If you’re gonna factor in a sense of humour, that should be top of the list. It should be me, Keaton, Kilmer, Lego, Bale, and the pretty boy Clooney."
The 87-year-old places Lego Batman in front of Bale and Clooney. Ouch! Of course, the comments are to be taken completely with a grain of salt. West goes on to give another reason of why he should be number one. He adds:
“There’s another reason I should be higher on the list. All those other guys have muscles built into their costumes. All I had under my Batsuit was 100 per cent, grade A West”
Can anyone really argue against that? Remind yourself of the great Adam West as Batman from this clip from 1966:
"What's An Affleck?"
Bale played the lead role across Christopher Nolan's acclaimed Dark Knight trilogy from 2005 to 2012. The mantle has since been handed over to Ben Affleck, who didn't escape the superhero ribbing. In the scene, Howard claims he is concerned about Affleck, West responds ignorantly by saying: "what's an Affleck"?
West played the role Bruce Wayne's alter ego in the Batman TV series between 1966 and 1968, and also featured in a feature film version. The over the top, goofy portrayal has a cult following and, well, many many memes.
The Dark Knight will next be seen in Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice, which will be released on March 25th 2016, with Affleck at the helm:
Is West right? Was Bale overrated as Batman? Who is your favorite?
