Everyone and their mother has an opinion on who should play Carol Danvers in Marvel's Captain Marvel, which doesn't come out until 2019. The biggest contenders include Emily Blunt, Charlize Theron, and Katheryn Winnick. Bloggers have been fighting over who could play Carol for months. I say we shake things up. Captain Marvel comics have introduced some very cool characters over the years who will most likely show up in the movie. They are crucial to building a strong believable story for Carol. Let's cast everyone BUT Captain Marvel herself.
Mar-Vell, AKA Captain Marvel, is a member of the Kree (They are the blue alien species featured in Guardians of the Galaxy, which is weird because he's depicted as white and blonde in the comics. Should a Kree hero have to hide his skin color? I'm getting off topic). Because of an accident involving Mar-Vell, Carol Danvers receives superpowers and becomes Ms. Marvel. Later, Mar-Vell betrays Carol and she takes over as Captain Marvel. Who should play this deceitful alien?
Lets face it, Leo can do anything. He's yet to play a comic character and Mar-Vell would be a perfect choice for him. He's a mysterious, heroic, cunning, and deceitful character. Leo thrives at playing deep complex characters. Plus, we all like him, so his betrayal will be all the more heart-wrenching!
Abigail Brand is the head of S.W.O.R.D. (S.H.I.E.L.D. in space). She's a tough no-nonsense agent who is often in disagreement with Carol. She too has superpowers, but prefers to use weapons. Oh, have I mentioned she has green hair? Yeah, she's THAT cool. Who could play the rigid and tough Abigail?
Kate often plays bossy characters. As Abigail, she'd be the boss. Kate plays characters who are business-minded and get things done themselves. Kate is perfect for this!
Joseph Danvers is Carol's father. Because of his old fashioned ways, he believes Carol is meant to be a housewife, so he doesn't pay for her to have an education, nor does he support her aspirations. This causes tension in the household. Who could play Carol's unsupportive father?
Tom has the look. He has the mustache. He has the talent. I think he'd be perfect in this role. He could do very well at playing the loving father who can't see beyond the sexist ways of the past. Plus, who doesn't want to see Magnum P.I. in the MCU?!
After Carol becomes Captain Marvel, the mantle of Ms. Marvel is passed on to a teen named Kamala Khan. She's a HUGE superhero nerd, and even writes Avengers fan fiction, as well as idolizes Carol Danvers. The MCU needs Kamala, but who could play this outrageous, goofy character?
YouTube watchers know Lilly as iiSuperwomanii. Yes, I know, she's not even an actress, but hear me out! She's definitely goofy, and she respects her heritage, just like Kamala. She's young enough for the role, and looks the part. Most important of all, she's a nerd! She makes the 'Superman S' with her fingers in all of her videos! Lilly would make a great Kamala.
Everyone loves Carol Danvers. She represents equality for women and overcoming opposition. Though Carol is an icon and will be the focus of the film, it's her supporting characters who build her up. Even if you hire the best Carol Danvers on earth (which Marvel will because, well, they're Marvel. That's what they do) you've got to have a well-rounded supporting cast to create the adversity for her to overcome.
