Ridley Scott's upcoming sequel to Prometheus, now titled Alien: Covenant and Shane Black's The Predator both have been given release dates by 20th Century Fox.
The Predator, AKA Predator 4, which is set to be directed by Shane Black (Iron Man 3, The Nice Guys) will release on March 2nd 2018, a great date for a sequel whose predecessor came out over 5 years ago back in 2010. This is just before the Summer season and should be able to make some decent box office for Fox as March is never a crowded month.
Ridley Scott's Alien: Covenant starring Michael Fassbender (Steve Jobs), Billy Crudup (Spotlight), Katherine Waterston (Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them) and Danny McBride (This Is The End) has been given a release date of August 4th 2017 which means the film has been moved up 2 months from it's initial October 2017 date. By August, we've already seen most of our Summer blockbusters and we'll often get one or two films in the month that really do well, hopefully Covenant can take advantage of this date. I did however think an October date made more sense for a film in the Alien series, it's not a Summer type of franchise, but Prometheus was a very divisive film and perhaps Fox just want a quieter month to release the sequel. The film will release on the same day as Pitch Perfect 3, a good piece of counter programming as the two films don't have a huge overlap in their audiences.
