Disney have collaborated with the Japanese animation company, Studio Ghibli many times in the past. That's not to say that they've worked on projects together, but Disney has supported their work by distributing Ghibli's movies in the west. For example, Nausicaa of the Valley of the Wind (1984), Castle in the Sky (1986), My Neighbor Totoro (1988), Kiki's Delivery Service (1989), Porco Rosso (1992), Pom Poko (1994), Whisper of the Heart (1995), My Neighbors the Yamadas (1999) and The Cat Returns (2002) were all distributed on Home Video.

In more recent years, Disney has theatrically released Princess Mononoke (1997), Spirited Away (2001), Howl's Moving Castle (2004), Tales from Earthsea (2006), Ponyo (2008), The Secret World of Arrietty (2010), and The Wind Rises (2013). While they don't own Studio Ghibli in the way they do Star Wars or Marvel, they've been able to cast voices for their American localization and even featured their characters in movies, like Toy Story 3.

Kingdom Hearts 3 & The Possibility of Studio Ghibli Worlds

If the above was possible, many fans have entertained the idea that Kingdom Hearts 3 could see characters or even worlds from Studio Ghibli's creations appearing in this highly anticipated sequel. I can't even begin to imagine how beautiful it would be to see the likes of Princess Mononoke, Howl's Moving Castle or Spirited Away receive their own worlds and characters in Kingdom Hearts 3 on its release date.

What Disney Property Do You Want For The Game's Release Date?

Outside of classic Disney movies and some of the studio's newest releases, such as Tangled and Big Hero 6, we've no idea what Square Enix will be allowed to use in Kingdom Hearts 3. Perhaps we'll see Sora interact with Luke Skywalker and Darth Vader. Perhaps the cast of Monster's Inc. will have their own world for us to enjoy. Or maybe we'll be standing next to Iron Man, The Hulk and Scarlet Witch as we face off against many of Marvel's greatest villains.

Though I don't think Marvel is a great fit for Kingdom Hearts 3, I'd be interested to see how Star Wars would work in this context. Pixar HAS to be in the game, right? But even though I adore the likes of Wall-E and UP!, the idea of a Studio Ghibli world in Kingdom Hearts 3 is almost too beautiful to handle. Is it possible? Perhaps. But what Disney property would you like to see on the release date of Kingdom Hearts 3? Let us know in the comments below!
