Daisy Ridley gave us a little hint at Episode VIII in an interview on the Oscars red carpet last Sunday. After discussing red carpet jitters and "trying to be a good person" in her interviews, she revealed a few things about filming of Star Wars: Episode VIII with an excitement that's clearly contagious.
Get Ready For Luke And Rey In A Staring Contest
"It's two hours of me and Mark Hamill staring at each other," she told the MTV News reporter, referring to the last scene in Episode VII where her character, Rey, who finally located Luke Skywalker on a lost island, walks up to him and silently hands him back his lightsaber.
Will Luke Accept Rey As His Padawan?
But although she was afraid of giving too much away because she's "honest," she did have to say that:
"It's such a good story! Seriously, Luke is so cool in this one."
Does this mean Luke will move past his trauma of training Kylo Ren and show Rey the ways of the Force? At least if he's "cool," we know that he won't go into hiding again.
Will 'Episode VIII' Open Where 'Episode VII' Left Off?
Daisy explained that "at the end of the film, you're not sure if he's going to take her or not, and [Episode] VIII opens the same way," adding:
"When we went back to Skellig [Michael, Ireland] to do the opening of Episode VIII, it was so crazy doing the same scene with a different crew of people."
Which means that for the first time in the franchise, we could have a new episode opening where the previous one left off.
That's also what the production announcement for Episode VIII seemed to be proving, showing the crew filming the rest of the meeting between Luke and Rey.
Is Rey A Skywalker?
The only question that Daisy doesn't answer is whether Rey is a Skywalker... But you can read about fan theories on why she should be related to Luke here.
Star Wars: Episode VIII is scheduled for release on December 15, 2017.
Do you think Luke will train Rey?
