By now, anyone who's a fan of Metal Gear Solid is more than likely aware of the Kojima-Konami fiasco of 2015. Months before the release of Metal Gear Solid V: The Phantom Pain, Kojima announced that it would be his final installment in the franchise. A while afterwards rumors began to circulate regarding the strange goings-on in Konami's offices in Japan.

It was eventually revealed that Kojima was leaving the company, that Konami was closing offices around the world, closing Kojima Productions, forcing employees to work in a stressful and oppressive working environments, and Metal Gear Solid V: The Phantom Pain ultimately suffered from this toxicity. Segments of the game weren't finished and the story feels incomplete. But all of the coverage this story received isn't enough to deter Konami from creating a sequel.

'Metal Gear Solid VI' — No Kojima, But Tons Of Konami

Shortly following the release of The Phantom Pain, Konami expressed desire to continue expanding the franchise without the presence of its creator Hideo Kojima. It stated that it would cost a lot of money to continue working on the game and that it was looking for a new team to lead the project. We've no idea when any of this will kick off, but fans have varying opinions on whether they'd be likely to support Metal Gear Solid VI without Kojima.

These are some of the varying opinions that permeate the Metal Gear Solid community:

  • Konami gets one chance. If it fails to deliver, certain fans will give up on the series for good.
  • If Konami continues with characters that Kojima and his team created, fans will boycott Metal Gear Solid VI.
  • If the game takes place within the same universe but features a new cast of characters, some fans are willing to support it.
  • Fuck Konami. That's one opinion.
  • Some fans are willing to keep an open mind about the project and simply wait for reviews and see if it's worth the purchase.
  • Not without Kojima.

Now you have an idea of how the community is divided on the topic.

Metal Gear Solid

Out of principle, I wouldn't like to support Metal Gear Solid VI. Metal Gear Solid is one of my favorite games of all time and holds a very special place in my heart. It was an emotional, intellectual and challenging experience when I first tried it on Sony's Playstation. I'm not going to forget that and I love that Kojima is one of the gaming world's only auteurs.

He's mad, entertaining, and completely understands gameplay. is the greatest stealth game of all time when gameplay is concerned. It's a modern masterpiece. For that reason, I'd be willing to ignore Konami's Metal Gear Solid VI and solely focus on Kojima's ventures with Sony. But I don't know. We'll see. Where do you stand?
