With rumors of Daryl Dixon's The Walking Dead storyline coming to a close, fans of the series are wondering how the show will send him off — if it chooses to do so, that is — and who will help us say goodbye.
Unfortunately, Merle Dixon won't be the one to usher Daryl through to the other side. While speaking at Wizard World Comic Con in Cleveland, Michael Rooker, who played the racist, misogynistic redneck sibling of Daryl, announced that he would not be returning to the show in any capacity.
According to Cleveland.com's transcript of the event, when an audience member asked if his character could come back in a flashback or dream, he responded with an unequivocal "no." And then jokingly added:
"They can't afford me."
He might have been a violent jerk, but he was always an entertaining character and I sometimes miss his presence since his death in Season 3. Sorry to all of you Merle fans out there, it looks like this is one corpse that won't be reanimated anytime soon.
'The Walking Dead' airs on AMC Sunday nights.
