Originality Is What Counts!
The X-Men universe is full of colorful and unique superpowers and mutations that were ruling the comic book pages since 1963. While some powers like telepathy, super strength, and agility are becoming common among the Marvel universe, there are some powers that are special, or straight up ridiculous, and unique to their owners. So, I am here to count down the most bizarre and ridiculous mutant powers that have ever appeared!
All the power and ability descriptions are directly from the Marvel wiki, so be sure to check out this really useful site!
1. Domino - Luck Alteration
Neena Thurman, also known as Domino, is a mutant with the ability to:
subliminally and psionically initiate random telekinetic acts that affect probability in her favor by making improbable (but not impossible) things to occur within her line of sight, thus causing her to have "good luck" and her opponents to have "bad luck." This phenomenon can be anything from an enemy's equipment failure to hitting just the right switch with a stray shot to shut down an overloading nuclear reactor.
Even though this is a great power that is unconsciously triggered when she is in danger, she still has to make an effort to avoid said danger. For example:
If debris falling from the sky was about to hit her in the head, she would still be hurt if she stood still. However, if she tried to avoid them, she would move perfectly to avoid each and every piece about to hit her. In addition if Domino were to stand before a hail of bullets she would be a bullet-ridden corpse. Instead, she must take action, attempting to avoid the gunfire and will miraculously bob and weave just perfectly to avoid every single shot.
More interestingly, Domino learned to trigger her powers by putting herself in situations where she might be harmed, and the limit of her powers is unknown.
2. Madrox - Self-Duplication
James "Jaime" Arthur Madrox, also known as multiple man, has the silly yet awesome ability to:
create an identical physical living duplicate of himself upon any physical impact.
Although this sounds pretty awesome, he can barley control his powers, and cannot prevent his multiplication. Also, his powers are pretty limited:
Although he can create multiple duplicates, and the duplicates themselves can also replicate, each is only able to create one duplicate at a time; he has been seen to produce around forty duplicates before no more would be created.
Also, he is mentally connected to his duplicates, that represent aspects of his personality, and can experience trauma if one dies.
Still, a pretty special power.
3. Doop - Contains An Alternate Universe Inside One's Body?!
Yes, this is real. This giant floating pickle person thing is actually pretty powerful. With energy blasts and an extra brain, his most unique power is the following:
Doop's body contained a nightmare dimension called Doop Land, which he could access by turning himself inside-out.
Doop can also store people and things inside this dimension, kind of sucking them into a nightmare. I honestly don't have much to say about this... it's just... wow!
4. Dust - The Ability To Turn Into And Control Sand
The powers on this list just get weirder and weirder... Sooraya Qadir, also known as Dust, is the only traditional Muslim comic character. She is a mutant with the ability to:
transform her body into a living sandstorm able to blind opponents or strip away flesh
Like, what? This power is actually very dangerous, as she can almost kill you if you get trapped inside her storm. Sadly, she has barley been represented in comics, but hopefully she will continue to awesomely use her unique power with the X-Men.
5. Dazzler - The Ability To Turn Music Into Light
Probably one of the better known examples of a ridiculous yet very special power, Alison Blaire, a.k.a. Dazzler, has the very colorful ability to:
transduce sonic vibrations into various types of light. Dazzler prefers utilizing music, particularly that which is rhythmically sustained, but cannot use the sound of her own unamplified voice. Dazzler can generate illumination, create realistic holograms, emit pulses or strobes to blind or disorient others, and fire laser-like cutting beams or "solid photon" concussive force beams. She is immune to the harmful effects of bright lights and loud noise.
All of these powers can only be achieved if there is a form of sound that will turn into them, so if you see a blonde lady on rollerblades singing towards you, you better run.
6. Maggott - Super Digestive System?
Now this guy, named Japheth might look badass, but actually his powers are kind of weird:
Maggott's digestive system consisted of two enormous sentient slug-like creatures, nicknamed Eany and Meany. Whilst Maggott himself could not eat, his slugs could devour any form of matter with incredible speed. When they finished feeding, they returned to his abdomen and imparted the energy from the matter they absorbed into Maggott’s body. This energy nourished Maggott, temporarily granting him enhanced strength and turning his skin blue.
So these slugs are like awesome, right? Yeah well, they are until they live in your stomach and you cannot live without them:
If Maggott was separated from the slugs for an extended period of time, he became extremely weak and risk death.
Wow, sounds just great.
7. Lifeguard - Changing Your Body In Order To Save Someone Else's Life
Now this gold-looking lady, called Heather Cameron, stands up to her name by having the following ability:
Able to subconsciously manifest superhuman powers dependent on whatever is necessary to save lives in any given situation.
I guess she is pretty useful to have around in battle, but that is one awesome superpower!
8. ForgetMeNot - Imperceptibility
Who is this guy, you wonder? Well, he is ForgetMeNot, the X-Man with the amazingly weird and unique power of being unable to be remembered by anyone. Yes, that is a thing, even though you will probably forget him the second you finish reading this article...
