Disney has officially announced a long-awaited sequel of High School Musical. Tentatively titled 'High School Musical 4', Disney has began the casting process for new cast members. There has been rumours circulating around the past few years about a fourth installment in the High School Musical franchise.
High School Musical first premiered on Disney Channel in 2006 and has catapulted the main stars to super stardom overnight. Zac Efron, Vanessa Hudgens and Ashley Tisdale all have successful careers post High School Musical. Zac went on to star on comedies such as Neighbours and Dirty Grandpa. Hudgens landed the lead role on Grease Live!, while Tisdale stared on the TV series, Hellcats and released a solo album. She's currently voicing Candace on the acclaimed Disney cartoon series, Phineas & Ferb.
A nationwide open casting call was announced on Tuesday and more information can be found here.
The announcement was made just in time for the franchise's tenth anniversary. High School Musical went on to become one of the most successful Disney Channel Original Movie and spawned two sequels, High School Musical 2 and the theatrical feature, High School Musical 3: Senior Year. The soundtrack has sold million of copies. High School Musical has also spawned a musical live show, ice skating show and a series of young adult and children books.
