The latest cast member of ABC's Dirty Dancing reboot has been announced! Nicole Scherzinger, former leading lady of the Pussycat Dolls, has landed the role of Penny, the dancing partner of main man, Johnny Castle, who will be played by dancer and actor Colt Prattes. The now world famous 1987 film saw Johnny (Patrick Swayze) and Baby (Jennifer Grey) caught up in whirlwind romance.

Penny, who was originally played by Cynthia Rhodes in the 1987 big-screen smash, provides a major source of drama in the story when she finds herself pregnant and in need of an abortion. The movie has already cast Abigail Breslin as Baby Houseman who, on vacation with her rich parents, becomes entranced by Johnny, a handsome, working-class dancer with a job at the resort. Debra Messing will play Baby's mother, Marjorie.

Nicole will be returning to ABC six years after she was crowned winner of the tenth season of Dancing with the Stars so there's no doubt her dancing skills will be up to scratch. Her list of acting credits, although small, include minor parts in How I Met Your Mother and Men In Black 3, as well as stage roles in Rent and Cats.

The sexy songstress tweeted of her excitement on Tuesday:

It looks like she's wasting no time in getting in shape for the role either. She posted this photo of herself in training shortly after:

The TV adaptation will be produced by Allison Shearmur and Eleanor Bergstein, the latter of whom wrote the screenplay for the original movie. We will hear music from Glee's Adam Anders and Peer Astrom and see choreography from Hamilton and Bring It On's Andy Blankenbuehler. A premiere date has yet to be announced.

It will be interesting to see how the remake will hold up to the original, which has become a pop culture classic. Watch the iconic final scene below:
