With Captain America: Civil War just a few months out, probably the only Avenger not appearing in Captain America: Civil War is Thor. He is by far the most powerful of the Avengers and would put a stop to any fighting amongst his fellow heroes, even if he thinks Tony Stark is not worth the title. We know that his hammer Mjölnir is the source of his power and we also know that only he who is worthy can wield it.
Did you know, however, that Thor has not been the only character in comic books to wield Mjölnir? There have been more than a few temporary wielders of this powerful hammer and some might surprise you.
We saw The Vision lift Mjölnir and hand it to Thor in Avengers: Age Of Ultron and we all freaked out in excitement about it. Now let's take a look at a group of characters you would never have thought could do the same, loopholes or not.
5. Red Hulk
The rules for Mjölnir are simple: Be worthy and you can wield the hammer. Red Hulk was able to identify a small crack in the rule and he exposed it. During a one-on-one battle with Thor, Red Hulk was able to get a hold of Thor's hand that was holding the hammer. With arm in hand he used Thor's own power to fly them both into space. In space the rules of gravity are no longer in play and Red Hulk was able to grab the hammer and use it against Thor. Yes, it's not technically controlling the hammer, but he did wield and use it. Well played, Red Hulk. Well played.
4. Captain America
During the events of Avengers: Age Of Ultron, we saw Captain America barely budge the hammer during the party scene. This was homage to the times Captain was able to use the hammer, and there has been more than one occasion.
During a battle with Seth, the Egyptian god of death, Thor was taken out and Captain America was left to lift the hammer and win the battle. At the time, Captain America was known as The Captain and was fighting alongside the Avengers and not with them.
Because even pet owners are a demographic comic books want to target. At some point during our lives, Thor was in a predicament that resulted in him getting cursed and transformed into a frog. During his time as a frog he met Simon Walterson, a fellow human that was also transformed, and went by the name of Puddlegulp. After Thor regained his form and powers, an unexpected silver replica of Mjölnir fell from the sky. When Puddlegulp lifted the hammer, he was transformed into Throg. After his transformation, Throg then became the leader of the Pet Avengers by default, since he was the only one that spoke.
2. Wonder Woman
Yes, this happened! During an epic DC versus Marvel crossover event in the late '90s, DC and Marvel were pitted against each other. In this time, even Wonder Woman was deemed worthy of the hammer due in to the fact that she is Wonder Woman. She was forced to go head to head with Storm, and Wonder Woman being who she is, she didn't find it fair that she wielded the Mjölnir, so she dropped it and eventually lost.
During the same crossover event where Wonder Woman was found worthy of the hammer, Superman was also able to use it. His circumstances were different than with Wonder Woman; she was able to lift it because she was worthy, he could only lift it because it was necessary. Once the battle was finished and evil was defeated, he was not able to lift Mjölnir again.
This is my list, and unless you are diehard comic book readers, you should be as surprised as I was when researching this information.
