The release date is not so far far away!

Looks like players no longer have to wait in anticipation for details on the Outer Rim DLC for [Star Wars: Battlefront](tag:2684021), as EA have released a slew of information for its first Expansion Pack! Before I go into detail about everything announced let me bring up the main talking point which is the announced Heroes!

After much speculation it has finally been confirmed that Greedo and Nien Nunb will join Battlefront's heroes roster! The official description from EA states;

New playable hero characters will have you shooting first with Greedo or targeting foes with precision as Nien Nunb.

In the attached image alongside the description Nien Nunb looks to be holding a sniper rifle. This has been confirmed as the Relby V-10 rifle that will be available with the Outer Rim DLC . From the description alongside Nien Nunb it sounds like this will be a Grade A Targeting Rifle that could very well rival the T-21 and T-21B.

I had speculated this in my last Battlefront breakdown that if Greedo is announce as a hero we would most likely be getting the DT-12 Blaster Pistol and I am excited to announce that we are in fact getting this blaster! The DT-12 was the infamous Blaster that Greedo fired at Han Solo, and it seems from the description that EA are poking fun at the "Han shot first" situation! It could also be speculated that the DT-12 could have the highest firing rate of any gun in the game. I said in my previous breakdown that the DT-12 was capable of firing up to 50 rounds and it seems that EA are implementing this. It looks like the DT-12 could rival the DL-44 as the best pistol in the game!

We can decide who shot first
We can decide who shot first

Along with the new guns we are set to get new Star Cards in the form of the Scatter Gun, Dioxis Grenade, and Adrenaline Stim. The Scatter Gun sounds like an upgraded version of the scout pistol which is great news for those who like to run with a long range weapon, as it will help you in those up close situations! The Dioxis Grenade will contain the deadly toxin Dioxis, the gas used in the Trade Federations attempt to kill Obi Wan and Qui Gon Jinn in Phantom Menace. This grenade will work just like the Smoke Grenade Star Card but instead of blinding it will weaken or possibly kill an enemy. The Adrenaline Stim Star Card sounds like it will grant you more damage in the field and let you move quicker on foot.

As promised by EA we are getting brand new maps and locations for the Outer Rim DLC. The official description from EA states;

Blast enemies in the smelting factory or along the industrial pipes and platforms of Sullust or fight through Jabba’s throne room and sail barge garage on Tatooine.

As previously announced, we are definitely getting a Jabba's Palace map. From the description and the image released with the announcement, expect two maps for Jabba's Palace! One will support the larger game modes such as Walker Assault and Supremacy, which will let you fight both outside and inside the Palace. One smaller map that will be situated inside the Palace exclusively. While there is no official confirmation about trap doors or Rancors, expect there to be a few surprises inside the map.

And of course we are getting brand new Sullust maps. Sullusts maps are my favourite among the game modes Walker Assault and Blast so this is very exciting news for myself.

It seems a lot like EA are appealing to fans who demanded maps based on Episodes I-III as the Sullust maps seem to draw heavy inspiration from Mustafar, and we are getting a huge bombardment of Tatooine maps.

On top of the new maps we are also getting a new game mode titled Extraction. The official EA description states;

Rebel forces have entered some of the most dangerous places in the Outer Rim in order to extract a valuable shipment of resources. Now they must bring the shipment to their transport ship before time runs out. The Empire has arrived to stop them from reaching the extraction point.

From the sound of things this game mode will draw heavy inspiration from the game mode Cargo. While EA have not announced which maps it will be based on, my bet is that this will be a Jabba's Palace exclusive, but will probably expand into other maps with a future update much like Turning Point with its Jakku map.

This is only the first details revealed about the DLC as we are still awaiting confirmation on a release date and the level cap increase! We are also being treated to a free update in March alongside the DLC which will add a new Endor Map for Walker Assault! EA have definitely listened to the fans negative response of Battlefront and are apologising in the best way possible! This is exactly how you do DLC!
