Superior VFX, better scripts and plots, amazing actors and directors... Bollywood seems to be preparing for a new age. This year has started with a boom already!

Are we really seeing Bollywood go beyond just hero-heroine and cliched action-romance?

Before last year, mainstream Bollywood for me was an industry failing to compete with the international movie business. That has suddenly changed! 2015 was surprising! I'm looking forward to new releases from Indian movie houses, especially, Dharma Productions.

The past one year has seen a big leap in both technical and artistic qualities in the Bollywood movies. And I'm excited! This year, Bollywood witnessed a rock-solid start with visually appealing movies like Airlift and Neerja, beautifully written movies like Wazir, Fitoor, Saala Khadoos and Neerja (again). There is a shift from the cliche Bollywood plots to a more meaningful one, with the FEMALE characters in pivot roles (Saala Khadoos and Neerja, yet again!).

Hats off once again to Rajkumar Hirani !

My favorite in this new age of Bollywood so far has been Neerja! The movie has me in its grips even after a week. Its superior direction, script, actors (even the background actors), minimalist style, visuals and sound effects (hats off to Prime Focus) has me enchanted!

Another movie that had me in awe was Airlift! Akshay Kumar seems to be entering into a deeper realm of acting. The visual and audio was realistic; I could relate with it!

Not just Akshay, but Nimrat too!

The best thing about movies this year is a refreshing lack of the stereotypical (much fantasized with odd dance moves) Bollywood songs! The focus was more on the movie...wheww! It is safe to say that there's more to Bollywood than Amir Khan movies, hehe (Tare Zameen par, Three Idiots and Ghajini are evergreen).

Lastly, there is no way I can forget the mythological epic Bhahubali (2015) ! It's like the crew had been affected by Chris Nolan's ending style! The whole nation is hanging onto that last scene: WHY DID KATTAPPA KILL BAHUBALI?!!!!!! Endless memes and whatsapp messages still circulate. We can only get answers in the sequel. Anyway, it is the VFX and visuals that are so cool and amazing The most amazing of all was the waterfall that Shiva (the hot protagonist) climbs. Did you know Bahubali's special effects team had some VFX artists from Jurassic World? See Here.

The waterfall is no joke. Nor him.

Bollywood fans who want originality, change in style or taste- behold! A new Bollywood is emerging. I expect much more excitement!

PS: Even the adult comedies like Mastizade, though not much liked by the masses, show that Bollywood now has a wider genre and acceptance now.
