Going into this movie, I kept saying to myself "please don't repeat the same mistakes". I left the theater saying to myself "Thank you".
J.J. Abrams directed this film. Having already been a big fan of this franchise, he handled this movie with the most delicate of care. Abrams is good about keeping appropriate tones and feels when using a product that's been used the right way before. Also because this product was used incorrectly three times, he knew what not to do.
The visual effects are updated, but still have that same feeling that the original trilogy had. Lightsabers, blasters, TIE fighters. It seemed new, but familiar at the same time.
The actors in this film was amazing. Daisy Ridley, John Boyega and Oscar Isaac as the three new generation lead characters have been a joy to watch. I honestly believed that they were from the Star Wars universe. Adam Driver as the main antagonist was pretty interesting. I felt intimidated seeing this guy on screen. Harrison Ford, Carrie Fisher and Mark Hamill reprise their original roles in this film, and they are fantastic.
After seeing Han Solo die, I don't know how much longer the fan base will stay together. There will definitely be some splintering. By the way, thanks a lot Ben Solo.
