Batman V Superman: Dawn Of Justice will finally hit theaters in just a couple of weeks, and soon we'll know which of DC's biggest superheroes will come out on top. No matter what side you're on, the real winner is expected to be Warner Bros.
Current projections by Variety expect that Warner Bros and DC will take in at least $120 million for opening weekend at more than 4,000 theaters. Since the film is opening over Easter weekend, it could very well bring in as much as $140 million. Warner Bros is being conservative with its estimates and predicting only $110 million.
If Batman V Superman is able to hit the $140 million mark, it will become the 15th-biggest opening weekend of all time and the seventh highest-grossing superhero box office opening, officially dethroning last month's record-breaking hit Deadpool. But who knows? Maybe BvS will surpass even our highest of expectations. Here are the other major superhero hitters that Batman V Superman has to compete with.
1. 'The Avengers' — May 4, 2012
Opening weekend box office: $207,438,708
2. 'Avengers: Age Of Ultron' — May 1, 2015
Opening weekend box office: $191,271,109
3. 'Iron Man 3' — May 3, 2013
Opening weekend box office: $174,144,585
4. 'The Dark Knight Rises' — July 20, 2012
Opening weekend box office: $160,887,295
5. 'The Dark Knight' — July 18, 2008
Opening weekend box office: $158,411,483
6. 'Spider-Man 3' — May 4, 2007
Opening weekend box office: $151,116,516
7. 'Deadpool' — February 12, 2016
Opening weekend box office: $132,434,639
Although there have been some mixed reviews since the latest trailer reviews, I'm sure Batman V Superman will draw a ton of fans to the theaters on the holiday weekend.
'Batman V Superman: Dawn Of Justice' will be released in theaters on March 25.
