I know I'm a bit late to the party on this one but I will admit, I have not seen the first "High School Musical" but I heard it was harmless. The second one, I do not care for. But, the third one 'Senior Year' is admittedly a guilty pleasure. I especially remember hearing the songs when I'm at the Marketplace in Downtown Disney (now Disney Springs). Regardless of how I feel about "High School Musical" as a whole, "High School Musical 3: Senior Year" was on some level a satisfying ending to a pretty dated film trilogy. And believe me, it's DEFINITELY no "Toy Story 3"...
Then we get a spin-off of Sharpay called "Sharpay's Fabulous Adventure" which I have yet to see but all I can say is that I thought Disney stopped making direct-to-dvd sequels and spin-offs in 2008 (excluding the "Tinkerbell" movies).
But after all these April Fool's jokes of news articles...
We finally get it!
And with no way to top 'Senior Year'. Except maybe with Troy and Gabriella getting married and then them having kids but the former was a joke article and the latter, well let's just say that Disney has their standards. Like "Toy Story", "High School Musical" was intended to be a complete trilogy. At least that's what Kenny Ortega intended before he moved on to do to "Descendants" what he did with "High School Musical" but I digress.
Was there any other way to wrap it up? No. Is it a sequel? No, It's a reboot. Is it going to be in theaters like the third one? Disney gave up on films based off their shows for theaters despite the Box Office success of "Hannah Montana: The Movie" so, No. Is it going to continue Troy and Gabriella's character arcs? Not even in the slightest. Instead, it's gonna introduce to new Wildcats and (this is a first in the film series...) a rivalry between East High's Wildcats and West High Knights. Will Kenny Ortega be returning to direct? I already said he's focused on "Descendants" so, No.
And to be perfectly honest, I don't really care much for reboots.
Though, I DO make exceptions from time to time.
All I can say is that if you actually LIKE "High School Musical" then stick to the trilogy. If you wanna see more Sharpay then "Sharpay's Fabulous Adventure" is what you're better off with.
Disney, the only thing you should do with "High School Musical" that you should've done 5 years ago is...
