Zack Snyder has claimed super-movie of the year Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice began as his brain-child.
In an interview with EW published yesterday the 50-year-old director said of a chat he had with Warner Bros:
I pitched it to the studio like, ‘Listen, the idea is that Batman exists within the universe of Superman.’ And I go, ‘Guys, here’s the headline: Not just if Batman exists, guess what? Wonder Woman, the whole group.'
The gang in the forthcoming movie now includes Wonder Woman, Aquaman, The Flash and Cyborg. Apparently the studio's reply was: "About time".
In unifying these DC worlds in cinema Snyder may have cunningly laid the groundwork for his captaining of a litter of other DC multiverse movies. He is directing upcoming Justice League - Part One and Part Two and is also set to produce Wonder Woman, The Flash, and Aquaman over the next two years.
Snyder directed the predecessor of BvS, The Man of Steel in 2013, as well as 300 and Watchmen. He must be doing something right.
