Sonic the Hedgehog turns 25 this year and if the prospect of a new game wasn’t enough, Sega are promising more 'breaking news' to come out of the SXSW show taking place later this month!
"Join us as we celebrate the past and look to the future with breaking news and an inside glimpse at what fans can expect in this milestone year."
2016 marks the 25th anniversary for Sega’s iconic blue ball of prickly fun and Sega are looking to steal the show later this month at SXSW with the promise of breaking news. The studio will be hosting a special event at the show called ‘Sonic the Hedgehog: 25 Year Anniversary’.
The event will be streamed live on Twitch at 3:30 PM local time. The event will seat a panel of iconic Sonic faces like Sonic creator Yuji Naka and Sonic himself amongst others.
The official event description reads -
"The 'Sonic The Hedgehog: 25 Year Anniversary' panel will take a look at the history of the world's fastest mascot with the original creators, developers, and voice actors who will offer their insights and anecdotes about the generation-spanning character. Moderated by the man behind the @Sonic_Hedgehog Twitter account, the SXSW panel will be an engaging discussion and a must-attend event for any fan of the iconic franchise."
But what could this breaking news be?
Could it be a new game? We have already been teased with an all new anniversary game so this isn’t topping the list of possibilities. Maybe a Sonic ‘spin’ off?
We already know that Sega are reaching out to its community for help with the "help us make our games better" initiative. It is no secret that Sega have somewhat lost their way amongst today’s gaming giants.
So with us coming up short – what do you think is to come out of the event? A new game, new character or the potential retirement of the franchise? Let me know below.
