Some of you may remember a while back during the Sony hacking scandal that a 21 Jump Street and Men In Black crossover was being talked about over at Sony and now sources are telling Variety that the project has a director.

James Bobin best known for The Muppets, Muppets Most Wanted and the upcoming Alice Through The Looking Glass is in early talks to helm the project according to Variety. Sources say that whilst the official green light has not been given, the studio is already planning to start production this June.

Phil Lord & Chris Miller who are now working on the upcoming Han Solo film for Lucasfilm/Disney directed the first two films in the Jump Street franchise with great success. They are still on board as producers.

Channing Tatum and Jonah Hill are returning in the roles of Jenko and Schmidt respectively. Sony execs have made it clear that Will Smith and Tommy Lee Jones will not be returning to the Men In Black series as Agent Jay and Kay. The studio looks to reboot the franchise with younger stars.

Rodney Rothman who wrote the script for 22 Jump Street has handed in a script for the crossover film and Sony are pleased with it.

As a fan of both franchises I'm quite happy that this is happening. The Men In Black series was dead with a less than stellar third film back in 2012 and the Jump Street franchise had nowhere else to go other than repeat the same formula that undeniably worked for the last two films. Will Jenko and Schmidt become Men In Black? That's something I'd like to see.
