Finally, after a long wait since 2011, a movie-adaptation is finally and definitely on the tracks! It is set to be released in September 30, 2016.

So what can we expect?

The book is written by Ransom Riggs, a vintage photo collector. He has several YouTube clips where he explores certain old houses. As expected, he was able to give life to it through writing the book where the photos are given a fictional backstory. They are even featured in the actual book if anyone asks!

What is it about?

It is about the story of Jacob Portman (to be portrayed by Asa Butterfield) who are haunted by disturbing dreams since the death of an important character in the story. This sets him to a spiral of events that lead him to an island filled with the most bizarre people in a bizarre time loop with bizarre powers.

It has certain dark feel in it, being associated with vintage photos and everything. Every page was a certainly filled with actions and quite.. awkward romance. Though from what I see in the teaser photos, Emma Bloom's (to be portrayed by Ella Purnell) character will quite be tweaked in terms of her power.

Is it no different from the book?

Actually, based from the teaser photos, we can see that quite some things change when compared to the books

  • Emma Blooms' power (she was supposed to be able to control fire, but based on the photos, her power seems to be traded with Olive who is able to levitate, only being able to be controlled through a rope)
  • Bronwyn's age (she appears to be younger here)

But these are sometimes need to make a distinction when compared to the book anyways.

Why do I need to watch it?

  • It's inspired from vintage photos!
  • Eva Green!
  • Tim Burton!
  • The scenic island where they taped it!
  • The visual effects
  • The actors!
  • It's inspired from a best-selling book!
