Guess what: Deadpool has broken another major box office record. Just when you thought there weren't any movies even left to top, the snarky R-rated antihero tale has found another category to conquer: the highest grossing movies of all time in the United States.
One Of The 50 Highest Grossing Domestic Movies
On Saturday, it reached the 48th spot in the list of the 50 highest grossing domestic movies of all time, with $311 million at the American box office. It left behind Star Wars Episode VI: Return of the Jedi, Star Wars Episode II: Attack of the Clones, Independence Day, as well as the former highest grossing R-rated movie, 300.
'Deadpool's' Recipe For Success
The Merc with a Mouth charmed audiences with an alternative take on the classic superhero movie. Packed with crude but self-aware humor, including a good number of R-rated jokes and obviously over-the-top violence, the movie follows Wade Wilson as he goes through a mutant transformation in the hopes of curing his cancer... but ends up being disfigured and swearing to get revenge on the villain responsible for his misfortune. Add a love story and a little fourth-wall breaking, and you've got a recipe for box office success.
Distanced By 'Zootopia'
However, you might want to hurry if you haven't watched it yet, as its spot on the box office throne has been taken by Zootopia, which opened to an astonishing $73.7 million domestic, the top showing ever for Disney Animation Studios.
