Darth Maul is one of the most hellish figures ever created in movies. A stunning fan film, Darth Maul: Apprentice, has reimagined him at an apprentice stage being trained by Darth Sidious.

German filmmaker Shawn Bu wrote, edited, and directed the 17-minute short movie for T7 Production. Vi-Dan Tran choreographed the gripping lightsaber battles.

The short was released on March 5 on YouTube. It amassed almost one million views in under two days, along with a flood of positive comments. A statement under the video says:

We worked incredibly hard on this film for almost 2 years! We always felt that Darth Maul should have had more screen time. So we wanted to create a film just for him with the best lightsaber fights we could do! This is not based on any books, comics etc.

The film opens with Darth Maul surveying security of a planet through a projected globe. Suddenly an intruder enters the zone. He goes to investigate —five Jedi! Epic fighting with impressive CGI and professional cinematography ensues.

I don't know about you but I was gunning for Darth the underdog in this.

Who did you want to win in 'Darth Maul: Apprentice'?
