Has one joke character ever garnered quite as much of a following as Tyler Perry's Mabel 'Madea' Simmons? Madea first appeared in 2002's Madea's Family Reunion, and 14 years later the large-and-in-charge Ms. Simmons is still going strong.
Her 22nd movie is Boo! A Madea Halloween, which will see her using her own personal martial arts style – 'Whoop Yo Ass' – to dispatch legions of the shuffling undead. Check out the trailer.
The official synopsis promises mayhem and supernatural nasties all splattered with Madea's personal brand of boss bitch:
''Madea winds up in the middle of mayhem when she spends a hilarious, haunted Halloween fending off killers, paranormal poltergeists, ghosts, ghouls and zombies while keeping a watchful eye on a group of misbehaving teens.”
Personally, I'm just hoping that Madea finally makes good on her earlier threat; that would really pop on the big screen...
Jimmy Tatro, Diamond White, Kian Lawley, Yousef Erakat and MTV's Scream stab-fodder Bella Thorne will also appear.
What's really interesting about Boo! A Madea Halloween is that it really is a joke that spiraled out of control. In Chris Rock's 2014 movie Top Five, he sees people queuing at the cinema for a fictional Tyler Perry Madea movie called Boo... which is now being made in real life.
