In arguably what was one of the best episodes ever, The Walking Dead certainly ramped up the tension this week... but still no Negan. Forget the bloodshed, the bullets, and the beheadings, there is one talking point we should really be addressing, because someone looked awfully familiar. That's right, episode 12, 'No Tomorrow Yet,' had a cameo (of sorts) from the one and only Johnny Depp!
No, we aren't talking about Tom Payne's new addition, Jesus, who is fast becoming our favorite character. The real life (dead) Johnny Depp was there. Eagle-eyed viewers saw that a certain zombie head bore more than a passing resemblance to a former Mr. Scissorhands.
The scene in which Rick's group tries to pass off the beheaded zombie skulls as Hilltop leader Gregory (Xander Berkley) sees three heads lined up on the road. The heads were taken from dummy casts. Special effects guru Greg Nicotero let us in on a little secret: one cast was taken from Nicotero himself, the second a mystery man, while the third was the actor behind the infamous Captain Jack Sparrow.
Nicotero told EW:
"One of the other heads, I don’t know if I’m going to get in trouble if I say this, was Johnny Depp. I think we had sculpted an emaciated version of a dummy head for something and we used Johnny Depp’s head as a basis just for a clay sculpt. I can’t remember who the third one is, but I’m in good company."
Unfortunately, it is back to acting school for Johnny! The head chosen to take to the Saviors was actually Nicotero's. Sorry Johnny, maybe audition again next year?
