He may not turn green with anger, or possess a powerful suit made of iron, but Phillip Coulson has been an integral piece of the Avengers jigsaw puzzle since Iron Man in 2008.
So it's understandable the agent would be frustrated at keeping secrets from his fellow Marvel Cinematic buddies. And what bigger a secret than the fact he has been brought back from the dead?
"I Think It Hurts Him"
An original creation for the Marvel movies who died in The Avengers (2012), Coulson has since been resurrected by Nick Fury's command for the TV series, Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D.
According to the actor who plays him, Clark Gregg, the character wouldn't be too pleased about not informing the Avengers of his second coming. In an interview with Zap2It, he said:
"I think Coulson is a moral person, and I think he feels really bad about it. He had great, obvious admiration for Captain America and fanboyed to the point where he almost burst into flames; despite all the snarky weariness he has about Tony Stark, he has a huge amount of admiration for him.
"I think it hurts him that they don’t know. He hopes at some point he can make it clear to them that this was not a choice he made, but one that was made for him — and he can repair those relationships.”
Will He Be Back?
However, Gregg does believe that the current story arc for Agent Coulson is necessary. Although there are no plans for the character to be reunited with his big screen buddies any time soon, his work rebuilding S.H.I.E.L.D currently takes priority.
But does Gregg believe the much anticipated reunion will ever happen? He does, but only when the "time is right." So for now, we wait.
