With superhero movies coming out left and right these days, it makes sense that we are starting to see more and more strong female characters. This traditionally male dominated genre is beginning to see more and more female characters joining in on the fun. Lately we have seen great performances from and positive fan reactions to characters such as Imperator Furiosa in Mad Max: Fury Road, Black Widow in The Avengers, and of course Wonder Woman in Batman v Superman. From what I have heard, the studio greenlit a stand alone Wonder Woman film even before BvS hits the theaters. Also, with an all female Ghostbusters cast hitting the streets soon, it makes sense for the studios to begin introducing a lot more strong female characters to the big screen for a new generation to fall in love with.

With the recent success of R-rated Deadpool, I think the world is ready to see an edgier/sexier Catwoman movie. As fans, we want to see our Catwoman don the Arkham-style costume and attitude. Where the last version failed, I think this new, rebooted Catwoman: A Gotham Tale could pick up the torch and reignite the love for this old character.

I think the key to making this film and concept work is all in the writing and the approach the studio takes to this project. I think the writers of Gotham have done a nice job of re-envisioning a familiar world and story line. If this Catwoman reboot can be familiar yet fresh and new all at the same time I think it would be a success. Taking a edgier approach, as Daredevil and Deadpool have, I think would help make this movie a bigger draw for an older crowd looking for a more serious comic book movie. I understand this might be too soon for the studios to do, even with the massive success of Deadpool, but I think there is a place for this type of film. You might loose the kid market but you would gain a new, more serious target audience for this character. Or even if they do what BvS is doing by releasing an R-rated Blu-Ray version? This could be an option as well. This is my two cents on the subject, so please chime in with your thoughts.

Thanks and happy movie going!
