Since Star Wars: The Force Awakens basically turned our world upside down at the end of December 2015, we have seen a great amount of fan art featuring our most beloved characters. Our love for the intergalactic adventure is so real that now it's almost impossible to imagine our lives without it – remind yourself of the incredible movie with the trailer below:

Now however, a number of images have been released that show the original concept art for the latest Star Wars installment – it's almost unfathomable to think how differently the movie could have turned out. Check it out:

1. Jeff Bridges as Han Solo

Concept artist Christian Alzmann said:

Iain and I were thinking about Jeff Bridges in True Grit. Everyone loved the idea of a duster and the long combed-back hair with the beard. They wanted it to look like the old Sergio Leone-style posters.

2. The early Jedi Killer/Kylo concept part I

Instead, this one went on to be an Inquisitor in Rebels.

3. Luke being swallowed by the sand

And here he is again but in isolation:

4. Early Junk Planet concepts

5. Stormtrooper redesign

Alzmann wrote underneath:

We just updated the stormtrooper and gave it some edges. Things today have smaller radii, tighter lines. And they're more lightly faceted, as opposed to smooth and windswept like the stuff in the seventies.

6. Early Jedi Killer/Kylo part II

Terrifying.

7. Early Kylo lightsaber concepts

Concept artist Dillon wrote:

I really like the grenade head one. This was another one of my designs for the Jedi Killer that never worked out.

8. Luke's appearance in 'The Force Awakens'

Seriously badass.

And finally... my favorite:

9. Anakin/Vader ghost

Artist McCraig added:

If we see Anakin Skywalker, because he does flow back and forth between Darth Vader and Anakin, let's see him as a character with a dark and light side. The reason Luke is this whole new entity is because he was the first to acknowledge his own dark side so that it was not separate from him.

Has your mind been successfully blown?
