Someone once said less is more. But really, when you finally sit down to watch an epic superhero squabble of the magnitude of Captain America: Civil War, you'll want as much action as is humanly possible to cram into one feature-length film.
So the news that the latest Marvel Cinematic Universe (MCU) offering could also be its longest will be more than welcome. Although there has been no official word from the studio as of yet, Event Cinemas has listed the film with a runtime of 146 minutes (2 hours and 26 minutes).
Can You Regulate A Superhero? Just For One Day?
This could of course change before the official runtime is confirmed, but all the signs would suggest the length of the movie will be substantial, if for no other reason than to fit the copious amounts of superhero goodies into one film.
With the Avengers split into two teams, spearheaded by Marvel exemplars Captain America and Iron Man on either side, the follow up to 2014's Winter Soldier promises to be a monumental cinematic experience.
The plot centers around plans to regulate superhero activity after another international incident causes collateral damage, with Tony Stark fighting the case for bureaucracy, while Steve Rogers opposes such action.
As well as Cap and Iron Man, the film will feature an abundance of Marvel's finest superheroes, including Black Widow, Winter Soldier, Falcon, Ant Man, and also a debut cinematic expedition for Black Panther.
How Does It Compare?
A runtime of 146 minutes is substantial, and would rival the upcoming Batman v Superman: Dawn Of Justice, which runs for 151 minutes. But how does the 13th MCU movie measure up with the rest? Here are the top four:
1. 'The Avengers' (2012)
Runtime: 143 minutes
The first fully loaded Marvel ensemble movie was the sixth release in the MCU. It shows Nick Fury assembling his team of Avengers for the first time. Unsurprisingly, the film runs for a lengthy 2 hours and 23 minutes.
2. 'Avengers: Age Of Ultron' (2015)
Runtime: 142 minutes
The sequel to The Avengers was a huge success critically and commercially, grossing an incredible $1.4 billion worldwide, just under the $1.5 billion its predecessor made.
3. 'Hulk' (2003)
Runtime: 138 minutes
The 2003 solo Hulk movie, exploring the character's origins, starred Eric Bana in the lead role. However, the character's story arc was rebooted in 2008, with the release of The Incredible Hulk.
4. 'Captain America: Winter Soldier' (2014)
Runtime: 136 minutes
The ninth MCU film and second Steve Rogers solo is sandwiched between Captain America: The First Avenger, and the upcoming Civil War. The movie was a commercial and critical success, and even won an Oscar for Best Visual Effects.
'Captain America: Civil War' will be in cinemas from May 6, 2016.
