Heroes are the ones we turn to for inspiration. It has been that way for years and with this year being the one that superhero movies will reign supreme, it doesn't seem to be changing anytime soon. Now every superhero movie comes with so many great quotes that are handed down to future generations. Some of the quotes are just plain awesome, but it's the inspirational ones that you remember. Here are five of my favorite superhero quotes (so far,) in no specific order.
1. "It's Not Who I Am Underneath, but What I Do That Defines Me." - Batman Begins
Of course I'm going to start out with a Batman one. Said first by Bruce's love interest, Rachel Dawes, and later by Batman in order to reveal his identity to her, this quote is meant to be inspirational because it drives someone to do better, to be better. What defines you is not your material self, but what you put out into the world and what you do.
2. "I'm With You 'Til the End of the Line." - Captain America: The Winter Soldier
Said originally by Bucky in the 40s when he and Steve were great friends, this quote makes a return in the end of the film when his best friend is sent to kill him. As the Helicarrier they're on falls apart around them, and Bucky is beating him senseless, Steve says it again as an effort to convey that he's still willing to die for him, even in Bucky's darkest hour.
3. "We Know We're Afraid, but It Doesn't Mean We're Weak." - Green Lantern
In an effort to convince Oa's Guardians to unleash a Green Lantern force on Parallax to save Earth, Hal reveals that everyone is afraid sometimes, but it's about how we perform during that fear that displays our character. We may be afraid, but fear doesn't automatically mean weakness.
4. "We Have to Be Greater Than What We Suffer." - The Amazing Spider-Man 2
In a speech to inspire their graduating class, Gwen Stacy delivers her valedictorian address in a monologue filled with inspiring quotes. This one is my favorite though, as it symbolizes that we will face nothing but trials and obstacles to make it through in life, and we must overcome them and be better because of them.
5. "A Thing Isn't Beautiful Because It Lasts." - Avengers: Age of Ultron
In a philosophical discussion with his creator, Ultron, Vision attempts to explain why humanity is worth saving, even though Ultron refuses to see it. Vision grew so much in a few days that he discovers the importance of life in the world and the quote he uses means that beauty isn't found in the things that people will see and idolize, it's what they remember.
These are only a few of the many quotes that I will always recite from superhero films, for years to come. What are your favorite superhero quotes?
