That ketchup sitting on your dinner table every night could kill you. When it comes to food, we really don’t think about what we eat, right? Like I said, that ketchup sitting on your table , is loaded with salt. It just has an inviting label. If too much is consumed, the consumer could get diabetes or die(And I know that’s dramatic). Transfat is one of the leading ingredients in processed foods. Because of transfat, 30,000 to 100,000 people die from a heart attack each year. Not to mention refined grains which increase you risk of a heart attack by about 30%! Another ingredient in processed foods is high fructose corn syrup. Companies try to “sugarcoat” sugar by giving it a fancy name that normal people wouldn’t recognize. Did you know, harmful ingredients are in almost everything except fruits and vegetables(I’m not saying everything else is terrible and should never be eaten). For example, some foods you should avoid are, bread, buns, muffins, beer, ketchup, spaghetti sauce, soft drinks, and many more. I could go on and on but you get the gist. You have to be very careful at the store so you don’t make bad food choices that you will regret later.
Who’s contributing to this epidemic?
Picture yourself driving. You pass many food companies. Did you ever realize, that wonder bread company you pass every day to work, is contributing to one of the biggest health epidemics in history? You might not know this, but some companies that claim to be “healthy”, might be one of the worst places to ever go to eat. But, there are people who are contributing in a good way. You’ve probably never heard of these companies, for they’re rarely spoken of. Novo Nordisk is the top supplier for diabetes. In the 90 years they’ve been open, they have made over 30 products to help with diabetes. Another one of the companies is Eli Lilly. Eli Lilly is in more that 55 countries. And because of that, they have about 8000 workers. But what is really surprising is that out of the 55 countries they are in, they only have 13 plants! They must be like rare animals. Except their plants. What I’m trying to say is, people are helping a lot with diabetes, and we owe them a thank you.
Who’s Really Affected?
If you or a loved one had diabetes, you’re on luck because there might be a cure. Very recently, ‘Johnson and Johnson’ and ‘Viacytes’ have been testing for a cure to diabetes. But they haven’t come up with anything yet. Although they are very close. But don’t fear. There is a pill however, that you can take once in the morning or once to night that has been shown to lower glucose levels in rats, who are closely related to humans. These pills are currently for sale in the UK. And by 2030, scientists estimate that 4.6 million people will have their condition of diabetes completely and safely managed. Of course, we just want a cure, right? But in the meantime, we have to rely on pills to help us. Thus, we are on the verge of having a cure to diabetes, and it will affect the world population greatly when it is found.
