Anne Dark has launched on Kickstarter. In today's modern cinema we rarely have a strong female superhero lead and it's even rarer when it comes to the world of the paranormal. This genre mashup featuring some of the most unique concept art in years promises to deliver. Anne Dark tells the story of a teen with eerie superpowers who must battle her way through three mystical gates, guarded by the forces of darkness, in order to save the world and enact revenge for her sister's death.
Director Brent Sims created the film festival hit Grave Shivers, a short film which was screened at more than 37 festivals and took home LA's H.P. Lovecraft Film Festival Audience Award in 2015. His past work has been compared to horror and sci-fi genre hits from the '80s. Based on the concept art alone, this project is sure to deliver an original film in a landscape filled with reboots and remakes. View the Kickstarter here.
The film has two renowned global artists providing concept art inspiration; Lenka Simeckova from the Czech Republic and Anton Semenov from Bratsk, Russian Federation.
Simeckova is a truly bewitching artist. She creates dark illustrations and comics that are fascinating. She is inspired by fantasy literature, including the gothic Victorian atmospheres of Edgar Allan Poe, and the dark horror of H.P. Lovecraft. Witchcraft, mythology and horror — these are the regular themes of her work. Her characters of predilection are slender and irresistible creatures from other worlds. While macabre in nature, the visual and creative illustrations of Simeckova are also full of dark humor.
Semenov is a popular Internet artist known as Gloom82 on DeviantArt. Many of you will be familiar with his work as he created the amazing creature designs for my first Kickstarter short, Grave Shivers. While horrific and paranormal darkness echoes in the eyes of every character he creates, his unique approach also imbues a sense of beauty and isolation.
Director Of Photography — Ryan Booth
Booth is a talented, self-taught cinematographer from Austin, Texas. He was the DP behind Grave Shivers. Most recently he was the director of photography on the documentary for 20th Century Fox entitled The Revenant: A World Unseen. This documentary highlights the challenges producers faced in bringing the motion picture The Revenant to life. He has worked for MTV Networks, A&E, History Channel, Lifetime, Sony and Universal. Films he has shot have screened at Sundance Film Festival, SxSW and many others. To view his latest work, check out The Revenant: A World Unseen.
Costume Designer — Aidan Rae Vitti
Vitti has a rather unique vision for Anne Dark, a complex Victorian-era styling that is invaded by Alexander McQueen, Rick Owens, 1920s military visuals and Japanese post-apocalyptic design. High fashion and dark couture paint a lush fabric landscape for our characters. Anne Dark lives in an alternate timeline that has complex stylistic choices for many subsets of characters. These characters are cloaked in rich and lush fabrics that are reminiscent of variant time periods and countries, with hints of other-worldly attributes.
Practical Effects — Chris Hamburger
Hamburger's unique approach and passion for robots and sci-fi culture rings true in every one of his unique works of art. Chris is creating custom gear for military characters in Anne Dark. His work includes mask making for Marvel and props for AMC's upcoming Preacher.
