It's the end of an era. According to the episode preview at the end of Dance Moms, Maddie, MacKenzie, and their mom, Melissa will be leaving the show at the end of the sixth season. This is sad news because the show has already lost Christie and Chloe Lukasiak, Kelly, Brooke, and Paige Hyland, and most recently, Cathy Nesbitt-Stein, her daughter Vivianne, and the rest of the Candy Apples. Once Maddie and her family leave, Nia and her mom Holly Frazier will be the only original team members left; Jill and Kendall Vertes didn't join the team until season 2.
Maddie appears to have moved on from dance. From watching this season, I can see she has lost her passion for it, even though her technique and performance is the best I have ever seen in all the years I've watched her grow. In fact, the performance from last Tuesday is perhaps the best I've ever seen her act and dance, so if she is leaving behind dance forever, like I worry she is, it's a true loss to the dance world. If you haven't seen it yet, watch Maddie portray the infamous Axe murderess, Lizzie Borden below:
Maddie is moving on to other opportunities such as being a judge on So You Think You Can Dance: The Next Generation which will feature kids ages 8-13 instead of the usual young adult competitors. Hopefully this means she will continue her dance career!
She also has a role in an upcoming film, which is rumored to be produced and written by Sia, and she probably has many more opportunities waiting for her that we have yet to learn about. I'm glad that she is successful, but I will miss seeing Maddie and her family on the show, so in a way it's bittersweet - but we're sure to see more of this talented young lady in the future.
