President Francis J Underwood, what can you say about this man! He is decisive, deceitful, confrontational, and fearless and that is why America loves him. Season 4 of House of Cards on Netflix once again brings back a man who stands side by side with Tony Soprano, Gordon Gecko, Frank White, Tony Montana, Darth Vader, and every other bad guy we love to hate BUT love nonetheless.
Kevin Spacey gives us another master class on how to play a bad guy with addicting appeal. President Francis J Underwood once again has to contend with keeping the skeletons from bursting out of his closet, as well as navigating the duties of the most powerful man in the world. He does so with a cunning so terrifying as Commander-in-Chief, even Nixon would marvel at such talent.
Oh, and lets not forget the wife. Claire Underwood (flawlessly played by Robin Wright) is equally devilish and beautifully cold. This season she displays a willingness to destroy all that’s in her path while deepening the cracks of an already unstable marriage to the President. Claire Underwood opens up the vault of surprises and unspeakable shocks this season. It’s also important to note that Robin Wright displays her talent as Director for a few episodes as well.
Michael Kelly, Mahershala Ali ,Jayne Atkinson, Molly Parker, and Nathan Darrow return for the carnage with a few newcomers this year. Joel Kinnaman (Robocop, Suicide Squad), Neve Campbell (Wild Things, Party of Five), and the great Cicely Tyson (Diary of a Mad Black Woman) join the cast for this years web of bedlam and falsities. There are also some “ghosts” from the past that come back for brief cameos as well.
With all that said, NETFLIX House of Cards is still the devils show. President Francis J Underwood is a man who would scare Donald Trump into letting the illegals stay, who would persuade a nun to cuss out the bishop, and who would force the Pope into singing ACDC’s Hells Bells at the Washington Cathedral. Kevin Spacey unleashes his greatest character upon the world, taking us by the hand, sitting us down, and making us watch his glorious display of calculated chaos while we smile for the entire ride. Then we rush to the back of the line for another turn again!
