Way back in June 2015, Disney announced that they were turning their beloved animated movie Tangled into a TV series titled Tangled: Before Ever After. While unfortunately the show isn't set to hit screens until 2017, today Disney has released the very first look at the series which includes the return of Rapunzel's long, blonde locks! Take a look:
Obviously Rapunzel's hair wasn't the only change Disney made for Tangled: Before Ever After, with the TV series clearly going for a more traditional 2D animation look. I gotta say, despite looking very different to the film I kind of dig it, especially as it calls back to many other Disney channel classic TV shows such as Kim Possible.
However, even though the show clearly looks very different to the film, at its core it'll still be the same Tangled we know and love with Mandy Moore and Zachary Levi reprising their roles as Rapunzel and Flynn/Eugene. M.C. Gainey will once again voice Captain of the Guards, and Jeffrey Tambor and Paul F. Tompkins will also return as Snuggly Duckling Pub Thugs, Big Nose, and Shorty — hey, what can I say, they had a dream!
Deadline has also reported that a slew of other actors have signed onto the show including Ashley Judd (Divergent) as Rapunzel's mom Queen Ariana, Broadway actress Eden Espinosa as Rapunzel’s handmaiden and confidant, Cassandra, Jeff Ross as Hook Foot, and Richard Kind as Uncle Monty.
Tangled: Before Ever After will be set between the events of the 2010 film and the start of the 2012 short Tangled Ever After. The series will follow Rapunzel exploring the kingdom of Corona, acquainting herself with her parents and life outside Mother Gothel's tower in general. Hopefully the show will also reveal exactly how Rapunzel gained back her flowing long, blonde locks after they were cut at the end of the film, because surely I wasn't the only Tangled fan baffled by that?!
