While the spotlight has focused on the main protagonists in the eagerly anticipated Batman v Superman, the identity of the rest of DC's ensemble of superheroes still hasn't been fully revealed. We know that we'll see Aquaman, Cyborg and the Flash, but could we also see Green Lantern?

Since it was announced Dan Amboyer would be joining the the cast of Dawn of Justice, his role has been shrouded in mystery. According to IMDB, he'll play drone pilot Lieutenant Christie. Yet a specified IMDB title isn't enough to satisfy the undernourished tastebuds of those wanting more information.

"Find Your Lime Light"

We know that the upcoming DC Extended Universe includes Justice League's Part One and Two. We also know Green Lantern Corps will be released in 2020. Which, putting two and two together, means DC need someone to bravely pick up from where Ryan Reynolds, erm... left off.

There has been a lot of speculation suggesting Amboyer would be playing the role, and whether he is or not, he's certainly added to speculation by posting the below picture on Instagram, with a luminous green filter and the caption "find your lime light":

But, Wait, Didn't Warner Bro.'s Say Green Lantern ISN'T In 'BvS'?

To answer my own question, yes, yes they did. According to Entertainment Weekly, producer Gregg Silverman has essentially ruled out Green Lantern making an appearance, maybe even until Justice League: Part Two, set for release in 2019. He said:

“For now, we felt that we were introducing enough characters that the best possible place we could put Green Lantern is some introduction in Justice League 2, or barring that, a movie after.”

Don't be too disappointed just yet. Silverman did acknowledge Green Lantern is an "incredible character." He also admitted they made a mistake with the infamously mediocre feature film starring Ryan Reynolds pre-Deadpool, and promised fans that patience will be rewarded.

I Just Called To Say Metallo

So the question is (IF Silverman isn't throwing in a red herring to mask the scent) who is Amboyer playing? If his social media tease suggests he'll be a green character, one option could be Metallo.

If this is the case, it'll be bad, bad news for Superman as Metallo is one of his fiercest rivals, plus the cyborg uses Green Kryptonite to gain energy, which makes him a monumental threat to Clark Kent's alter ego.

Metallo's first appearance was in 'Action Comics #252' in 1959, and his most recent live-action appearance was in Season 9 of Smallville, where he featured in three episodes, portrayed by Brian Austin Green - see a clip of him taking on Superman below:

The character was once known as John Corben, before he was a fatally injured in a car accident. Metallo's sole aim is to kill Superman, an objective that was given to him by his creator, Professor Emmet Vale.

Interestingly, the villain was being considered by director Zac Snyder as the leading baddie in the sequel to Man of Steel, before the idea of Dawn of Justice was given the go ahead.

Furthermore, Amboyer's caption could also play into this theory. Could the caption "lime light" be referring to Metallo's radioactive powers...?
