Grand Theft Auto remains one of the most contentious and best selling video game franchises ever, from the very first instalment in the series way back in 1997 to 2013's record breaking Grand Theft Auto V which swept through the video gaming world like a hurricane, kicking ass and taking names.
Fans will of course remember Carl Johnson - also known as C.J. - the protagonist of 2004's Grand Theft Auto: San Andreas, which was then heralded as "the best game ever made" and has lived on in fan imagination in the more than a decade since.
The voice actor behind the Grove Street Families gang leader Christopher Bellard, better known by his stage name Young Maylay, has been making some waves in the GTA fan base recently via a suspicious looking Instagram post which appeared to be teasing a connection between C.J. and Grand Theft Auto V's Franklin.
The above image - as posted on MayLay's Instagram - features a collage of C.J., Franklin and their respective voice actors - MayLay and Shawn D. Fonteno - also known by his rapper alias Solo.
The caption on the post reads "#CJ #Franklin #GTA Shh!", but the original caption (as screencapped by Fraghero) said "#CJ #Frankilin #GTA DLC? Shh!". The post was later altered to remove the DLC reference, but not before commenters got excited by the prospect of a C.J. centered DLC coming the way of Grand Theft Auto V.
This follows on from a lot of speculation about whether or not the game would ever get the single-player DLC which Rockstar had promised, seemingly falling to the wayside in favour of the massively profitable Grand Theft Auto Online. However it's worth noting that Fonteno is in fact that the elder cousin of Maylay, so it's likely that this is just an amusing snap taken by Maylay rather than a big DLC tease.
And this isn't the first time we've gotten a tease on this subject, Shawn Fonteno has previously posted images to his Instagram featuring him sporting a motion capture suit in a room which looks mighty like it could be an office at Rockstar, opening up the single-player DLC speculation once again.
However - even though the image was posted earlier this year - there's no way of knowing when it was taken and what this means for the future of Grand Theft Auto V. It seems pretty likely to be a tease leading nowhere, especially since Rockstar are currently still focused heavily on GTA Online.
Imran Sarwar, Director of Design at Rockstar North, when asked by IGN in an interview last year about the future of GTA V DLC responded thusly:
"Right now our focus is on GTA Online which has exceeded our expectations. We currently have all key members of the team that launched Grand Theft Auto V focused on supporting GTA Online in every capacity."
Hmm, it's not sounding too great for a C.J. focused DLC then, but we can dream. We can still dream.
