It seems like forever since we first got wind of a new Texas Chainsaw Massacre movie, and this film will explain the origins of its central terror: Leatherface.

Leatherface News & Rumors

Check here for news & rumors, which will be updated whenever anything is released to the eagerly-awaiting horror public. Lionsgate will be distributing the movie in America, continuing their wave of excellent horrors including the Saw franchise. IMDb outlines the plot of Leatherface as follows:

Teenage Leatherface escapes from a mental hospital with three other inmates, kidnaps a young nurse and takes her on a road trip from hell. Along the way, they are pursued by an equally deranged lawman out for revenge.

It's the eighth film in the Texas Chainsaw Massacre saga, but it's a sequel, going way back to Leatherface's childhood. The poster symbolizes Jackson Sawyer's journey from innocent kid to chainsaw-wielding lunactic...

Leatherface Premiere Date

We don't have a Leatherface premiere date yet, although the movie has completed production after filming on location in Bulgaria.

Leatherface Trailer

We have no Leatherface trailer as yet, though the film certainly sounds more ambitious than the lumbering killer's last outing alongside Alexandra Daddario in 2013's Texas Chainsaw 3D.

The film will be directed by French horror duo Julien Maury and Alexandre Bustillo (Inside, Livide) and written by Seth M. Sherwood. The soundtrack was written by Thirteen Ghosts composer John Frizzell, who told Scoring Horror:

"It's a period film, and so I think it’s going to sound "of the time," and place; it’s Texas, so it’ll be a very rural Texan horror score, the first of its kind. It’s going to be a lot of fun."

Leatherface Characters

The main Leatherface characters are as follows:

Jackson Sawyer

  • Played by Sam Strike

Although just a young man, Jackson will eventually become Leatherface. Scriptwriter Seth M. Sherwood said of the character:

"Leatherface is very much about identity. Gunnar Hansen said that Leatherface was devoid of identity beyond doing what his family told him, or what his mask might define. Instead of starting Jed Sawyer as a gibbering simpleton, I was more interested in taking somebody that could almost pass as normal and then explore how they could be reduced to nothing. Leatherface doesn’t know who he is, he doesn’t remember his family— but the saw becomes integral to restoring that… because the saw IS family!

Lizzy

  • Played by Vanessa Grasse

Lizzy is a nurse who escapes from the mental hospital with Jackson and his friends.

Hal Hartman

  • Played by Stephen Dorff

Hartman is a deranged Texas Ranger obsessed with revenge.

Verna Sawyer

  • Played by Lili Taylor

Verna is Jackson's mother, so will have a big role to play in his eventual incarnation as Leatherface. The role was originally offered to Angela Bettis.

Clarice, Ike & Bud

  • Played by Jessica Madsen, James Bloor & Sam Coleman

Three youngsters who are friends with Jackson and end up running for their lives when crazed lawman Hal Hartman chases them down.
