Remember the days right before the release of Star Wars: Episode VII - The Force Awakens when the Internet was aflutter with fan theories about Darth Jar Jar? The conspiracy proposed that the widely abhorred Jar Jar Binks was much more than a bumbling fool. In fact, the Gungan is actually trained in martial arts and the ways of the Force, and he has been a willing accomplice to Sith leaders — at least, according to the theory.
Because one of the key elements of this speculation hung on Jar Jar's appearance in The Force Awakens (which obviously didn't happen), the theory seemed to die down after the movie's premiere.
That is, until now.
Ahmed Best (The Actor Who Did The Motion Capture For Jar Jar) Is Offering His Take On The Likelihood Of Darth Jar Jar
In a video interview with Jamie Stangroom (posted below), Best reveals that he believes part of the disorienting theory to be true. Here's what he had to say:
"What I can say about it is ... there’s a lot about it that's true. There are some things about it that are not true. Could Jar Jar have evolved into that? I think the answer is yes. Because of the backlash, and rightfully so, Lucasfilm backed off from Jar Jar a lot. But a lot of the influence that I put into the character mirrored a lot of what was already in the Star Wars universe. So, was there an official Darth Jar Jar in the works? That’s really a George Lucas question, I cannot answer that question."
So he can't give the most concrete answer, but this is pretty damn close. And equally shocking.
He Also Revealed 'Attack Of The Clones' Contained A Deleted Scene That Adds Credence To The Theory
In the interview's biggest bombshell, Best explains that there was a scene removed from Episode II – Attack Of The Clones, due to the overwhelming disdain for his character:
"I really liked that scene and it got cut from the movie because, you know, Jar Jar was so unpopular, in my opinion. ... It was just me and Palpatine walking down the runway, talking about the plans to turn the Empire into what it had turned out to be. So it was a very dark, very personal, very quiet scene, but for some reason Palpatine decided to turn, to confide in Jar Jar in that scene that pretty much he was going to wreak havoc. So wherever that scene is, somewhere, that would really give great credibility to the Darth Jar Jar theory."
WHAT. Seriously, what?! Why would Palpatine trust Jar Jar with such sensitive and destructive information? Did he think Jar Jar was so much of an idiot that he couldn't do anything about it? Similarly, was the plan already set in motion, so there was no way to stop it now?
Or was Jar Jar Binks truly in the pocket of Palpatine all along, concealing his true abilities for the sake of the Sith? Most pressingly, could he actually be Supreme Leader Snoke?
Here's the full interview for all those holding out hope we'll see Jar Jar on the Dark Side of the Force one day.
