The animation studio Laika has routinely brought some of the most distinctive and gorgeous animation to the big screen, and it plans to continue that stop-motion mastery with Kubo And The Two Strings. The upcoming film is set in Ancient Japan and follows a little boy named Kubo, a master storyteller and heir to arcane magical powers.

When a spirit invades Kubo's village, he unearths his destiny: Locate an enchanted suit of armor once worn by his Samurai father and fight the gods and monsters who pursue him.

The New Trailer Uncovers Even More Of This Epic Adventure

Once Kubo is hunted by these evil forces, he must leave his mother behind and harness the power of his musical family. Along the way, he'll be joined by a sage monkey (voice by Charlize Theron) and a protective beetle warrior (voice by Matthew McConaughey).

Most of all, the animation style beautifully renders the fight sequences using instruments. It's safe to say I'll be going on my own journey to the theater, once this comes out this summer.

Kubo And The Two Strings will hit theaters on August 19, 2018!
