We heard recently that Jena Malone (The Hunger Games: Catching Fire) would not be making the theatrical cut for Batman V Superman: Dawn Of Justice, but would probably make it onto the R-rated Blu Ray cut. Her character so far was unknown and many speculated who she was actually playing, and now we know. Last year test screenings were held for the upcoming DC film and Warner Bros. sent out this questionnaire for their marketing. Take a look:
As many of us speculated, Jena Malone is in fact playing Barbara Gordon, the daughter of Police Commissioner Jim Gordon now being played by Academy Award Winner J.K Simmons (Whiplash) in the upcoming Justice League. Notice that the questionnaire does not say "Jena Malone as Barbara Gordon/Batgirl" similar to how above it says "Henry Cavill as Clark Kent/Superman" so we had no chance of seeing Malone suit up as Batman's caped sidekick in the movie but it does seem as though she would have been in a wheelchair, possibly as her other alter ego; Oracle. Oracle helps Batman through an earpiece, giving him information on criminals etc., I doubt we would have seen her aid Batman in his crime fighting efforts but her appearing in a wheelchair does hint towards the Joker being the one who put her in the chair, similar to the comic book story line; The Killing Joke, in which the Joker shoots Barbara, leaving her unable to walk.
Just last week, director Zack Snyder had this to say about Malone not making the theatrical cut of the film:
I think we should keep it private, but it’s nothing that’s been talked about. She’s definitely not Robin or Batgirl. I’m happy to say that.
As for the casting of Malone in the role, I think she's a great choice! Malone is a very underrated actress and personally I think she fits the role, I hope to see her in a future DC property; perhaps Justice League or the standalone Batman film.
