Just over a month ago the trailer for the second of six movies being released to celebrated the anniversary of Digimon Adventures was released, Digimon Adventure Tri: Determination.

This trailer has created a massive buzz around the Digimon fandom as to what could be going to happen in the movie. I will be taking you through stills from the trailer above to indicate what could be a possibility backed up with previous history of the Digimon franchise.

Firstly, this movie appears to have much more Joe in it!

Joe was sadly lacking in the first movie as he was suffering alone as he failed more and more at school, stunting his ambitions of becoming a doctor. However in the second movie trailer it indicates we will see much more of him along with Mimi.

This pair being chosen as the focus of this movie is undeniably a reference to their special connection during the original series of Digimon Adventures. In the final third of the series Mimi decides she does not wish to fight as all it keeps resulting in is them loosing their friends. Joe being noble and reliable offers to stay with Mimi to protect her and for a time the pair only have each other. This bonded the unlikely pair in a way similar to Kari and Takeru. At this time they also created close bonds with many Digimon they had met earlier in the series. Perhaps the strongest bonds formed were the connections they made with Leomon and Ogremon, and the pair appear in the trailer for the new movie also.

In the trailer the pair appear to be fighting again with Leomon protecting Elecmon and the Primary Village where all Digimon are born. Let's hope Leomon won't meet the end he did in Digimon Adventures the series as it could be the catalysis that causes the appearance of these two Digimon in the trailer.

This big guy is known as Vikemon. Vikemon is a Beast Man Digimon whose name and design are derived from the Viking Berserker. It is a Mega Digimon which governs the freezing lands of the permafrost, where nothing ever thaws. Its fur has become like ice crystals, and is said to be as hard as Chrome Digizoid. With the morning star "Mjöllnir" it carries on its back, it can annihilate a mountain in one swing, distorting space itself. It manages the Ikkakumon and Zudomon corps, and although in the midst of battle it appears as a heartless berserker, it shows a face of great compassion for its subordinates. The second was this Digimon.

Rosemon is easily recognised by Digimon fans as she appeared in Digimon Data Squad. Rosemon is a Pixie Digimon whose name and design are derived from the rose and is a mega level Digimon. It has an appearance like the rose, and is said to be the queen of flowers. It has the appearance of a beautiful woman, and desires to remain beautiful forever. Its personality is more or less that way, and though it is excessively self-conscious about such things, its true strength does not in fact compare unfavorably with other Megas. It wears on its breast a "Tifaret", a jewel which is engraved with the symbol of love and beauty, that is said to promise it eternal beauty and power.

Why these two Digimon are so interesting is that they may be the first steps in fans receiving a long wish they have had since the first series of Digimon Adventures. During the first series their were eight Digidestined but only two, Taichi and Yamato, were successful in getting their Digimon to mega level.

This left Biyomon, Tentomon, Palmon, Gomamon, Patamon and Gatomon all at the ultimate level, a level below mega. The reason for hope with Rosemon and Vikemon is for the simple reason below.

These two videos are taken from game footage from a PSP game released only in Japan which was a RPG of the original series. This game added the mega levels of the remaining six Digimon partners with Gomamon receiving Vikemon and Palmon receiving Rosemon as their mega level forms. The importance of Mimi, Joe, Palmon and Gomamon is further reinforced by the promotional image for the movie.

This image reinforces the fact both Gomamon and Palmon will be receiving their mega levels as Joe and Mimi are the only Digidestined featured in the image. Another interesting Digimon to appear in the trailer and image above is Imperialdramon. In this image he is clearly engaged in battle with Vikemon and Rosemon ready to strike, which is odd as Imperialdramon is the mega level Digimon which is the combined Digimon partners of Daisuke and Ken. Has Imperialdramon fallen to the powers of darkness? It is possible as at the beginning of the first Digimon Adventures Tri movie we witnessed the fall of Daisuke, Miyako, Iori and Ken, the second team of Digidestined introduced in the second series of Digimon Adventures. The fate of their Digimon was never addressed in the movie at all.

The evidence of evil having its way with the Digidestined and Imperialdramon mounts with the addition of this image from the second trailer.

The Digimon Emperor
The Digimon Emperor

The Digimon Emperor has returned! The Digimon Emperor was the first evil force the new Digidestined team of Daisuke, Miyako, Iori, Takeru and Kari had to face. He turned out to be another Digidestined, Ken, who once freed from the clutches of evil joined the team. Has evil gotten its claws back into Ken? Perhaps not.

The Emperor's hairstyle is very similar to Taichi's, who in the first movie was questioning if what they were doing is correct. As seen numerous times in Digimon this is when a character is most vulnerable to the ways of evil, when they begin to doubt themselves. Will the Emperor being Ken, Taichi or someone else completely new? Only time will tell. As if that wasn't enough questions there is a massive one right at the end of the trailer!

Patamon says goodbye to Takeru

Patamon appears to be saying goodbye to his partner Takeru with Takeru screaming out his name at the end. Is Patamon set to say his farewells to Takeru? Surely not as the pair have been through many ordeals that helped them get stronger. But if the Digimon Emperor is returning, I guess anything is possible. This final interesting appearance in the trailer is the appearance of this Digimon.

Hackmon
Hackmon

Hackmon is a Mini Dragon Digimon whose name is derived from the fictional Huckleberry Finn, though it is also a pun on "hacking". Its fur shines a cool white. Hackmon had encountered Gankoomon, who saw in it the makings of the thirteenth Royal Knight, and decided to temper the Rookie Digimon with frequent, rigorous trials, in order to pass on its own title as a Royal Knight to Hackmon. Its unfettered and restraint-hating, adventure-loving way of life is probably due to Gankoomon's DNA. It chases after Gankoomon and faces the rigorous trials it imposes with an air of composure. It has a masterful sense of combat due to its lineage, and because of its training with its chaperons, the Sistermon sisters, it can more than hold its own in battle against its opponents even if they're an Ultimate. It specializes in close combat that capitalizes on its keenness. It follows its dreams of becoming a Royal Knight like Gankoomon as it fights through continuous battles. If he follows the Digivolution line he should he will introduce audiences (outside the computer games) to the 13th Royal Knight!

The 12 Royal Knights have been in place in Digimon for a few years now and are the protectors of the Digital World. Alphamon one of the Royal Knights was even featured in the first Digimon Adventures Tri movie. Needless to say all the Royal Knights are all powerhouse Digimon, but Hackmon digivolves into something unbelievable.

Jesmon is a Holy Knight Digimon whose name and design are derived from the Jesuits and the legendary Jesus. It is endowed with the ability to sense the unusual phenomena and signs of chaos that occur all over the Digital World, and is the first of any of the Royal Knights to come running. It is said that rather than acting independently, it makes a coordinated response with nearby Digimon and the Sistermons, and its operation as a team relies on the others, which is rare even for the Royal Knights, because it doesn't have overconfidence in itself. Because its "OS Generics" leaves its physical abilities unbound by the laws of the Digital World, Jesmon can overpower any enemy without taking a single scratch. The DigiCode on its tail-sword reads "FORCED TERMINATION", the DigiCode on its left arm sword reads "INITIALIZE", the DigiCode on its right arm sword reads "OVERWRITE", the DigiCode on its left leg sword reads "TRANSFER", and the DigiCode on its right leg sword reads "COMPRESSION".

I highly doubt we will see Jesmon in this movie, however there will be another four after this one, meaning their is plenty of time left for us to see this bad-ass looking Digimon. What I do feel is safe to assume from this trailer is that movie three will focus more of Sora and Izzy and we will witness Biyomon and Tentomon gain their mega forms, followed by Takeru and Kari's partner Digimon Patamon and Gatomon achieving theirs in movie four. As if all of this was not enough, only days ago a new 30 second trailer aired with even more information for us to prepare us for the movie.

The new trailer reinforces that Mimi and Joe will take center stage for the second movie, but it did show us one new piece of information.

Meikuumon introduced in the first Digimon Tri
Meikuumon introduced in the first Digimon Tri

The Digimon Emperor will capture Meikuumon the mysterious new Digimon introduced with his partner Meiko at the end of the first movie. This means there is a chance Alphamon who was targeting Meikuumon in the first movie may have been sent by the Emperor, or their are two separate forces fighting to get to this Digimon for some reason.

It is safe to say these six Digimon Adventure Tri movies will be sending us on a wild ride to the end with twists and turns at every given opportunity. Also you don't have to wait long for the answers to this movie as it will be released in the next few days, so keep an eye out for all the information.
