Now, with Tom Holland's Spider-Man having finally arrived in the Marvel Cinematic Universe in the most recent Captain America: Civil War trailer, and Jon Bernthal's Punisher set to arrive in full when Daredevil Season 2 hits Netflix next week, it's surely a pretty exciting time to be the MCU's new stars.

Intriguingly, though, there's a pretty good chance that the duo will be sending each other some pretty effusive thank you notes right about now — and not just because they think the other one is neat. Instead, as it turns out...

Tom Holland And Jon Bernthal Sneakily Auditioned For Marvel As A Duo

Yup, that's right — though Spidey and the Punisher aren't expected to meet on screen anytime soon, Bernthal and Holland found themselves in an unusual position back in 2015, and decided to take full advantage of it.

Y'see, the pair were both working on a medieval action thriller named Pilgrimage, while simultaneously making their respective ways through the Marvel auditioning process — and so they had the (in retrospect absolutely inspired) idea to make a whole bunch of audition tapes... together. As Bernthal put it recently, while speaking to the New York Daily News:

"We were making tapes from Ireland in the process of getting him cast in Spider-Man and then he and I made a tape for The Punisher... We were constantly making tapes for Marvel — just acting together."

Which clearly worked out well for both Holland and Bernthal — with the duo now firmly ensconced in the warm embrace of Marvel Studios — but it also raises a pretty big question:

Are We Ever Going To See Those Audition Tapes?

Well, from the sounds of it, there's actually a pretty good chance that we just — just maybe — might.

As Bernthal revealed:

"These tapes definitely do exist... you can call Marvel and ask for it, but that’s like breaking into Fort Knox."

Which suggests that while we may well have to wait until the Phase 3 Blu-Ray collection comes out in like a bajillion years, we might one day actually get to see Spidey and The Punisher auditioning alongside one another. Which would be AWESOME.

What do you think, though?

How would you most like to see Spidey and The Punisher team up?
